Join the WSU Outdoor Resource Center in a multi-destination climbing adventure at two of the premier bouldering locations in the east, Rocktown, GA and Stonefort, TN. Enjoy crushing the picturesque sandstone of Stonefort for two days, then followed by an exploration Chattanooga’s downtown, including the fascinating wildlife at the Tennessee Aquarium. Our Journey will continue south to the shimmering golden sandstone of Rocktown before returning home from this weeklong epic.

This is an amazing beginner caving trip.  Spectacular views await participants in the fountain and hurricane room of Pine Hill.  This cave is a great combination of crawls; open spaces, and includes a waterfall climb. This is a wet cave, so come dressed to get damp and dirty.

The cost is $25.00 and includes all equipment, instruction, and transportation from the Student Union.

This is an opportunity to utilize the skills you developed during the Introduction to Lead Climbing.  We will go to an outdoor climbing park and practice lead climbing.  Participants will have the opportunity to lead climb or practice more mock lead climbing.  There are also opportunities to top rope or boulder.  Trip leaders will use their discretion regarding participants’ ability to lead climb.

This class will cover types of lead climbing, equipment, lead belay techniques, proper clipping methods and basic commands.

The cost is $10.00 and includes all equipment, and instruction.

Join the ORC and climbing expert Bill Johnson on an adventure that will take you to new heights!  Within the 63,000 acres of New River Gorge National River are over 1,400 established rock climbs.  The “New” has become one of the most popular climbing areas in the country.  The cliffs at New River Gorge are made up of a very hard sandstone and range from 30 to 120 feet in height.  The rock is very featured, and an abundance of crack and face routes are available.  This short course is for all, beginner to advanced!  Come out for an amazing weekend.

 

This class will cover the basic skills of rappelling.  Participants will have opportunities to rappel using different devices and discuss the different situations where a person may rappel.
 
The cost is $12.00 and includes all equipment, instruction, and transportation from the Student Union.

The Hocking State Forest Rock Climbing and Rappelling Area has nearly a mile of cliffs ranging up to 100 feet in height.  Numerous slump blocks, cracks, chimneys and overhangs provide a variety of challenges to the rock climber and rappeller.

The cost is $40.00 ($30.00 for WSU Climbing Club Members) and includes all equipment, instruction, and transportation.

This class will familiarize participants with the resources and routes found at John Bryan State Park along with safety and risk management while climbing outdoors. The climbing routes we use will be geared towards beginners.
