The National Scholarship Resource Center has a great resource for faculty members writing letters of recommendations for student applicants. Writing Recommendation Letters: a Faculty Handbook, by Joe Schall outlines important ethical, practical, and style matters and provides an exhaustive array of sample letters (many of them specific to the particular scholarship -- Goldwater, Fulbright, Rhodes, e.g.). If you would like to borrow this book or photocopy the relevant pages from it, contact the University Honors Program.
