Ohio CORE and PK-12 Outreach - Bridging the gap between high school and college!
The Wright State University (WSU) Ohio CORE and PK-12 Outreach Office works to implement the tenets of the Ohio CORE legislation (S. B. 311) through close partnerships with the WSU Office of the Senior Vice President for Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education and Human Services, WSU-Lake Campus Community Outreach Office, school districts throughout Southwest Ohio, and appropriate others. The goal of the Ohio CORE and PK-12 Outreach Office is to enhance partnerships between WSU and PK-12 school districts to increase academic preparation of entering college students through programs such as:
- Dual Enrollment Program: Early college credit program offering college courses on the high school campus.
- Seniors to Sophomores: Early college credit program allowing high school seniors to earn a full year of academic credit for free on any University System of Ohio college campus.
- College Readiness and High School Outreach : Assessment and academic intervention program in the high schools that uses the statewide placement standards in English and mathematics to help students, parents, and teachers determine academic preparation for college and work.
The Ohio CORE and PK-12 Outreach Office coordinates dual enrollment programs (DEP) with school districts throughout the Miami Valley region. WSU Dayton and Lake Campus partner with over thirty high schools offering DEP Mandarin Chinese, Introductory Mathematics for Engineering Applications, English Freshman Composition, online Economics, and other WSU courses that meet the Ohio Transfer Module and Transfer Assurance Guidelines..
Additionally, the Ohio CORE and PK-12 Outreach Office, in collaboration with WSU's University College, offers a College Readiness and High School Outreach Program using the Ohio placement standards in English and mathematics. The program provides assessments within PK-12 districts to evaluate the college readiness of high school students, in addition to academic interventions designed to address remediation needs prior to students enrolling at the university.
