‘WorldFest’ at Wright State focuses on dance, music, arts & crafts, silent auction to benefit scholarships -- A display and demonstration on the significance of “Bojagi,” Korea’s traditional wrapping cloth. A performance of traditional dances from France, Germany, Scotland and Hungary. A silent auction featuring local dining, entertainment, specialty food and unique clothing items from such countries as Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Japan and Thailand. All of this and much more will be part of “WorldFest 2005”, Saturday, Feb. 19, at Wright State University. The 7 to 10 p.m. event in the Millett Hall Atrium will support scholarships for Wright State students to study abroad and for international students to study at Wright State.
(01/31/2005) Wright State psychology student recognized by Midwestern Psychological Association -- Sarah Jensen, a psychology major at Wright State University, will receive one of the Psi Chi Regional Awards at the upcoming Midwestern Psychological Association (MPA) meeting in Chicago in May. Jensen’s research, entitled “Early Exposure to Corticosterone Impairs Hippocamal-Mediated Learning in Males but Not Females,” focuses on the effect of stress hormones (corticosterone) on the ability to learn and recognize associations (hippocamal-mediated learning). (01/28/2005) WSU tsunami expert says education could have saved lives at recent Asian tragedy -- The massive loss of life from the recent tsunami in Asia could have been less if a proper education program had been in place, according to Sarah Tebbens, Ph.D., a Wright State University geophysicist who has studied tsunamis for 10 years. (01/26/2005) Wright State University Art Galleries hosts sculpture and wood exhibits -- The Wright State University Art Galleries is once again hosting the 8th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition from Jan. 30 to March 13. Shown concurrently is WoodWorks, an exhibit showcasing two approaches to wood sculpting featuring New Carlisle artist Jon Fordyce and Dewane Hughes of Missouri. (01/25/2005) WSU nursing student earns ROTC national honor -- Wright State University senior Brynne Tilley has been named the top nursing student in the Eastern Region of the United States Cadet Command.(01/24/2005) Wright State University Libraries receive NEH grant -- The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) recently awarded the Wright State University Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives a $5,000 Preservation Assistance Grant. The Libraries will use the grant to finance a consultant to evaluate its collections and facilities to determine what measures are needed to preserve the materials. (01/21/2005) International business honor society established at WSU’s Raj Soin College of Business -- Alpha Kappa Epsilon, an international business honor society, is being formed at the Wright State University Raj Soin College of Business.(01/21/2005) Innovative WSU graduate program deals with mental health, deafness -- A training program in mental health and deafness at the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology (SOPP) that is unique in American higher education is planning to expand to other locations in Ohio, according to Miami Valley clinical psychologist Robert Basil, Psy.D.(01/13/2005) Simulated “Wall Street” trading center announced at WSU’s Raj Soin College of Business -- “Wall Street” is coming to the Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University. College officials today announced a fund-raising effort for a new MTC Technologies Trading Center that will replicate an actual stock market trading environment.
