WSU celebrates Chinese-Vietnamese New Year -- Performers from the Beijing Opera will highlight Wright State University’s celebration of the Chinese and Vietnamese New Year, the “Year of the Boar,” on Monday, Feb. 5, beginning at noon in the Student Union Apollo Room on campus. (01/29/2007) WSU Students, Professor Publish Paper in Major Science Journal -- Dr. Charles Ciampaglio, associate professor of geology at Wright State University (WSU)-Lake Campus, recently had his research published in Palaeoworld, an international, peer-reviewed quarterly journal dedicated to studies on palaeontology and stratigraphy. However, recognized by Ohio magazine with this year’s “Excellence in Education” award for his dedication to his students, Ciampaglio is most thrilled that his student co-authors are now “published” scientists.(01/26/2007) Photography exhibit at Wright State focuses on plight of Somali refugees -- “Forlorn in Ohio,” an exhibition of portrait photography of Somali refugees living in Ohio, will be featured in the Wright State University Student Union Art Gallery from Monday, Jan. 29, through Tuesday, Feb. 7.(01/25/2007) Explore summer activities for kids at WSU Camp Fair -- Summer can be a drag for kids with nothing to do. School is out and contact with friends can be diminished by family vacations and other factors. But there are educational and recreational activities to occupy children and teenagers when they are out of school. The annual Miami Valley Camp Fair was developed to make parents and families aware of these summer opportunities. This year’s free event is planned for Saturday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wright State University Student Union.
(01/24/2007) WSU event focuses on civic engagement success stories to improve community life -- A major role for colleges and universities involves engaging their local communities in collaborative projects that improve the quality of life. By working together with civic, business and elected officials, university administrators, faculty and students can develop a town-gown relationship that extends campus resources into the community for the mutual benefit of both entities. How this comes about and the success stories it brings forms the basis for “Celebrating Engagement: Telling Our Stories” at Wright State University on Friday, Jan. 26. The 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. public event in the Student Union will commemorate 40 years of engagement between the university and the greater Dayton community.
(01/23/2007) Workshop at Wright State helps HR employees prepare for certification process -- Wright State University’s Raj Soin College of Business provides assistance for human resource professionals dealing with vital issues in today’s business community. Its Human Resource Management National Certification Preparation Course addresses areas from labor relations and benefits to compensation and safety concerns that constitute a major influence in determining a company’s success. Monday, Feb. 5, is the registration deadline for the upcoming certification preparation course that is planned for eight Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting on Feb. 17 and concluding on April 7.

Feb. 2, at 8 a.m. in the Berry Room of the Ervin J. Nutter Center on the Wright State University campus. The event is part of the Contemporary Issues in Human Resources Lecture Series sponsored by the Department of Management in the Raj Soin College of Business and Right Management.

WSU workshop can get you started -- The Wright State University Libraries—one of 80 nationwide locations of federal government patent and trademark resources—is again helping budding inventors learn what it takes to receive a patent for their ideas. The event is Thursday, Jan. 25, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library on the Wright State campus. All these events are planned to honor the Beavercreek community and bring their residents and students together at Wright State for an evening of fun and goodwill.(01/12/2007) Chinese professor studies integrity, ethics in cross-cultural business relationships -- Lijun Chen, Ph.D., a business professor at Zhejiang University near Shanghai, is researching how managers deal with integrity as part of the guanxi process within a cross-cultural context. She is pursuing this research as a Fulbright scholar this academic year at Wright State University.(01/11/2007) New rules require passport when flying to Caribbean, Bermuda, Mexico -- If you are flying to the Caribbean, Bermuda or Mexico this year, be sure to include a passport along with your sunscreen. New federal government rules require American citizens entering and/or exiting the U.S. via air travel to have a passport, effective January 23. (01/08/2007) First Rotaract Club in southwest Ohio formed at WSU to support community service projects -- The first Rotary International service organization for college and university students in southwest Ohio, recently established at Wright State University, provides sophomore Tessa Miracle with an opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream.(01/05/2007) Raj Soin College of Business dean named to international accreditation committee -- Berkwood Farmer, dean of the Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University, has been named to the Initial Accreditation Committee of AACSB International—the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. As a member of the Initial Accreditation Committee, which includes business college deans from around the world, Farmer helps oversee the final stages of the process for institutions seeking initial accreditation with AACSB International.
