Manpower, Inc., executive advises how to compete in today’s global economy -- On Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, Arkless, senior vice president for Global Corporate Affairs at Manpower, Inc., will present “Emerging Labor Markets: Their Impact on You, the Miami Valley, and the Rest of the World” from 8–9 a.m. in the Berry Room of the Ervin J. Nutter Center on Wright State University’s campus. Arkless will elaborate on how America—and the greater Dayton region—can successfully compete in a future where global outsourcing and “off-shoring” seem to be the order of the day. (01/28/2008)

Wright State celebrates Miami Valley Communities Night -- Wright State University celebrates cities in Clark, Montgomery, Greene, Preble and Warren counties on Thursday, Jan. 31, with an evening of fun-filled events and a chance to see the Wright State Raiders in action. Wright State University sponsors “Project Prom” to help children in need -- The Wright State chapter of Project Linus, a national nonprofit organization that makes hand-made blankets for children, is sponsoring “Project Prom.” Gently used formal and semi-formal dresses will be sold and purchased at “Project Prom” on February 2, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Fairborn High School. Pulitzer Prize-winning scientist looks at why some societies collapse and what we can learn from them -- What makes one culture thrive and another fall into chaos or even cease to exist? Jared Diamond, universally regarded as one of the great minds of our time, will delve into these questions and more as the keynote speaker for Wright State University’s Presidential Lecture Series and 2008 Honors Institute on Monday, January 28, at 7 p.m. in the Apollo Multipurpose Room in the WSU Student Union. Two national feminist leaders discuss present state of movement -- The women’s movement of the past four decades has irrevocably changed the world, opening professional doors for women and emotional outlets to men. But what does it really mean to be a feminist today? Is the women’s movement still necessary? Are men part of it? Well-known feminist leaders Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards will discuss the current state of feminism—its myths and its potential—on Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. in Wright State University’s Student Union, Room E156. Ohio Certified Public Manager Program now recruiting for spring -- Public managers at the city, county, state and federal level who want to develop their professional skills and advance their careers will soon have the opportunity to do so. A new Ohio Certified Public Manager Program (OCPM) cohort will begin in March 2008 in the Dayton area. The two-year nationally accredited program consists of 300 hours of professional training to increase the management and leadership skills of public managers. (01/11/2008)

Celebrate with Wright State at free concert by the Fisk Jubilee Singers -- In the tradition of the original Jubilee Singers, the Fisk Jubilee Singers will perform Negro spirituals originally sung by slaves prior to the Civil War when they appear in a free concert at Wright State University on February 10, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. in the Creative Arts Center. Sponsored by the university’s Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center, the a cappella ensemble’s performance is part of Wright State’s celebration of Black History Month.(01/11/2008)
