Vietnam’s exploding effect on U.S. economy topic for upcoming program at WSU’s Kettering Center -- The American business community can learn about the expanding business opportunities in Vietnam on Friday, March 17, at the Wright State University Kettering Center for Continuing Education, 140 E. Monument Ave. in downtown Dayton. “Doing Business in Vietnam – A Rapidly Expanding Market” will be presented by Nyugen Duy Khien, head of the trade office attached to the Vietnam Embassy in Washington, D.C., and Trung Trinh, executive director of the U.S. Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and managing partner of the Vietnam Resource Group, a private consulting group that develops business opportunities between Vietnamese and American companies. Following the presentation, they will be available for individual appointments with business community officials attending the event.(02/28/2006)

Is time travel possible? National expert coming to Wright State thinks so -- One of the leading experts on the subject of time travel, University of Connecticut physics professor Ronald Mallett, Ph.D., will explore the possibilities at Wright State University on Tuesday, March 7, in a talk on “A Brief History of Time Travel.”(02/28/2006)

Nationally known speakers Rebecca Walker, Shirley Barnes and Donna Brazile to highlight WSU Women’s History Month activities -- Talks by author and entrepreneur Rebecca Walker on leadership, former U.S. Ambassador Shirley Barnes on human trafficking and political organizer Donna Brazile on organizing for change highlight Wright State University’s celebration of Women’s History Month. Activities also include an art gallery exhibit featuring female artists and the International Women’s Day Luncheon. All events are open to the public. (02/27/2006)

Renowned neurologist and author Oliver Sacks WSU Honors Institute Presidential lecturer March 9 -- For the past four decades, Oliver Sacks has explored the mysteries of the mind, each time revealing the spirit within the individual and the unshakable capacity to be human in the face of seemingly insurmountable forces such as autism, schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s. The inaugural Honors Institute, presented by the University Honors Program at Wright State University, will feature renowned neurologist and author Sacks followed by a symposium on the human brain. The public is invited to both events on Thursday, March 9 and Friday, March 10.(02/27/2006)

Wright State to host Space Exploration Camp for women and minorities -- If you know a starry-eyed potential astronaut currently in grades 7–9, encourage him or her to apply for the 2006 Space Exploration Camp for Women and Minorities at Wright State University from Monday, June 26 through Friday, June 30. Sponsored by the Office of Pre-College Programs, this five-day program will introduce students to space sciences, technology and space exploration and include astronaut training and simulated space shuttle missions. History Day competition focuses on those who took a stand -- A documentary about baseball player Jackie Robinson, an exhibit devoted to Native American leader Red Cloud and a project on controversial Civil War figure Clement Valandigham will be part of this year’s National History Day competition.(02/24/2006)

Amber Vlasnik, new WSU women’s center director, started on career path as undergraduate volunteer -- When Amber Vlasnik was a college undergraduate at a small liberal arts college in Wisconsin, she sought out the women’s center during her first week on campus. She liked what she saw and soon became involved, first as a volunteer and later as a program intern. Today, Vlasnik serves as director of the Wright State University Women's Center.(02/21/2006)

Award-winning German a cappella group to perform at Wright State University -- Ensemble amarcord, a German vocal group described as “one of Europe’s finest a cappella quintets,” will present a public concert at Wright State University on Sunday, Feb. 26. WSU announces $4 million capital campaign to enhance Lake Campus facilities -- A $4 million capital campaign for building expansion and renovation at the Wright State University Lake Campus at Celina was unveiled today, Feb. 15, in morning ceremonies at the campus on the shore of Grand Lake St. Marys.(02/15/2006)

WSU Kuumba Black Arts Festival to celebrate African culture -- The second annual Kuumba Black Arts Festival at Wright State University is Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Student Union Apollo Room on campus. During the all-day bazaar, visitors can browse and purchase African artistry and wares. A quilting workshop will allow guests to design and create their own quilt patterns. During the evening, a celebration feast will treat guests to an authentic African dinner and live entertainment.(02/14/2006)

Wright State to host workshop on Internet sales and marketing -- Developing and implementing an Internet marketing plan that generates and converts traffic into sales can be a challenge for some businesses. Such businesses will benefit from the “How to Get Traffic to Your Web Site and What to Do When It Gets There: The Key to Successful Internet Marketing” workshop being held on Thursday, March 9, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Endeavour Room, Room E156 in the Student Union at Wright State University. Learn about patents at workshop sponsored by Wright State University Libraries -- The Wright State University Libraries—one of the few locations nationwide of federal government patent and trademark resources—is again helping budding inventors learn what it takes to receive a patent or trademark for their ideas. OSBDC at Wright State and Dayton SCORE to offer business planning workshops -- The Ohio Small Business Development Center (OSBDC) at Wright State University and the Dayton Chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) are teaming up to offer monthly seminars to existing and prospective business owners to help with developing business plans and learning about available resources. Workshops are held on the third Thursday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. in 219 Rike Hall on the Wright State campus. The next workshop is Thursday, March 16. (02/13/2006)

Wright State, Five Rivers MetroParks combine for first Miami Valley Adventure Summit at WSU -- With the upcoming Winter Olympics spurring interest in sports, Miami Valley residents interested in outdoor adventure will head to Wright State University on Wednesday, Feb. 22, for a day of programs on topics ranging from map and compass reading, hiking and kayaking to mountain climbing, bicycling and marathon training. Wright State Human Resources Lecture Series to discuss dealing with difficult employees -- How to best deal with difficult people in a business—whether it be a boss, subordinate, colleague or customer—and the difficult situations businesses face is the topic of the next Contemporary Issues in Human Resources lecture sponsored by the Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University and Right Management Consultants. Richard Sears, Psy.D., MBA, and fellow at the Yellow Springs Psychological Center, will present “Tough Issues, Tough People: Strategies for Dealing with the Difficult Employee” on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 8 a.m. in the Nutter Center Berry Room on campus. Wright State seeks proposals for state-wide Quest conference on diversity -- Proposals are being sought by a March 15 deadline for the sixth annual statewide “Quest for Community: A Call to Action” conference scheduled this spring at Wright State University. The Friday, April 28, conference will bring together community leaders, lawmakers and university students, faculty and staff from around the state to encourage understanding of and commitment to diversity issues.(02/07/2006)

Winning teams announced by WSU in Ohio stock market simulation competition -- With a 33 percent return on investment, students from Tri-Village in New Madison bested 133 teams in the Ohio Stock Market Simulation that concluded recently through the Center for Economic Education (CEE) at Wright State University.(02/2/2006)
