Sayer Named WSU Lake Campus Dean -- After serving for over six months as interim dean of the Wright State University Lake Campus, James Sayer, Ph. D., has been named to fill that position permanently following a national search for the campus’s top administrative post (effective March 1, 2008). (02/27/2008) Wright State welcomes Barack Obama to the Nutter Center -- Wright State University’s Ervin J. Nutter Center will be the site of a “Keeping America’s Promise” rally, Monday, February 25, when Barack Obama visits Dayton during his campaign swing through Ohio.(02/23/2008) Journalists’ roundtable at Wright State examines the presidential election process -- If you like watching Meet the Press, or news shows like Hardball with Chris Mathews, don’t miss “The Presidential Election, 2008—A Journalists’ Roundtable” at Wright State University, Thursday, Feb. 21, 3–5 p.m., in Room 120, Medical Sciences Building.(02/18/2008) State awards start-up funds to Dayton Regional STEM School -- Dayton will be the recipient of $600,000 in state funding to develop a STEM school initially to be located on or near Wright State University’s campus, the Ohio Board of Regents has announced. The Dayton Regional STEM School will offer a highly advanced curriculum for grades 6-12, designed to help students from Clark, Greene and Montgomery counties gain the skills needed to succeed in higher education and in the global economy.(02/15/2008) Mommy & Me Resource and Information Fair welcomes daddies, too -- Young parents and parents-to-be are invited to attend “Mommy & Me Resource and Information Fair,” Thursday, Feb. 28, 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Montgomery County Job Center on Edwin C. Moses Blvd. in Dayton. Wright State University management students are coordinating the event as part of a service-learning project in community leadership. (02/11/2008) Three-day Wright State event supports memorial scholarship fund -- Less than a year after his death, Adam Garapic’s friends at Wright State are organizing a three-day fundraising event to endow a scholarship in his name. Wright State University will host “THT 4 & More: Games for a Raider Cause” on February 22–24 to create the Adam Garapic Memorial Scholarship. Organizers hope to raise $10,000 and fully endow a scholarship in Garapic’s name to memorialize his contributions to the university community.(02/11/2008) Business scholarships available to first-year students at Wright State -- Four-year scholarships worth more than $45,000 are available to graduating high school students planning to enroll in the Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University this fall.(02/1/2008) Wright State celebrates Chinese and Vietnamese New Year -- In the Chinese Lunar Calendar, 2008 is the “Year of the Rat,” a calendar sequence that repeats every 12 years. People born in one of these years are respected for their self-sufficiency and noted for their charm and leadership abilities. Presentations will be made on the origin and meaning of this celebration at Wright State University’s upcoming Chinese and Vietnamese New Year event.
