Wright State engineering students earn fourth place in aero design competition -- A team of Wright State University students finished fourth out of 23 teams from the United States and around the world during the recent Aero Design East competition in Orlando, Fla., sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Wright State’s team consisted of Mark Brooks, Carlos Guttierez, Brett Odgers and Aric Wagner, seniors in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. The team advisor was Scott Thomas, Ph.D., associate professor of mechanical and materials engineering. Gittleman’s presentation, “Rummaging in the Attic” reflects upon the orchestra’s history in Dayton and the preservation of its past within the Wright State University Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives. (04/21/2005) Wright State University to host fifth annual conference “Quest for Community: A Call to Action” May 13 -- Diversity issues, inclusion and an improved campus climate are some of the issues to be explored when Wright State University hosts the Fifth Annual Conference “Quest for Community: A Call to Action” on Friday, May 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Union on campus. The state-wide conference is designed to explore ongoing efforts to create inclusive environments, programs and curricula; initiatives to improve campus climate; and opportunities for educational access and success, especially for diverse, traditionally underrepresented populations.(04/21/2005) Wright State instructor writes book on applying psychotherapy techniques to dating -- The way to a man’s heart is through his head. Caroline Presno, Ed.D., P.C., a psychotherapist and adjunct instructor at Wright State University, is the author of Profiling Your Date: A Smart Woman’s Guide to Evaluating a Man. The book shows women how to use a psychotherapist’s techniques for judging a man’s commitment, aptitude for love, intimacy, openness and authenticity, along with problems such as lying, paranoia, drug use, sociopathy and others.(04/20/2005) Wright State to host workshop on Internet sales and marketing -- The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Wright State University will sponsor “How to Get Traffic to Your Website and What to Do When it Gets There: The Basics of Internet Marketing,” a workshop to be held on Thursday, May 12, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Atlantis Room, E157 Student Union on campus. Topics to be covered include: how to get quality traffic to your Web site, how to design a Web site to convert your traffic to sales and leads, simple ways to measure the performance of your Web site, how to beat your competition online and winning strategies for Internet success.(04/20/2005) Ohio Certified Public Manager Program seeking new cohort to begin this fall -- Public managers from cities, counties, the state and federal government are being sought for the new Ohio Certified Public Manager Program (OCPM) cohort that will begin this fall at Wright State University’s Kettering Center for Continuing Education. The nationally accredited management development program is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Administrative Services.(04/18/2005) Anita Curry-Jackson chosen one of top ten African American women -- Anita Curry-Jackson, dean of the Lake Campus, was recently honored by the African American CEOs of the Miami Valley as one of the top ten African American Women in the Dayton Area. An associate professor of social work, Curry-Jackson was recognized for her accomplishments in social work and for her role as Lake Campus dean.(04/18/2005) Wright State business students collect top honors in national case competition at graduate, undergraduate level -- Student teams from the Wright State University Raj Soin College of Business placed first and second recently in the 21st annual National Case Competition. The event, sponsored by the Society for the Advancement of Management, was held April 3-6 in Las Vegas, Nev. (04/14/2005) Journalist, author Helen Zia to speak at Wright State on the emergence of Asian Americans -- As part of Wright State University’s celebration of Asian Heritage Month, Helen Zia, award-winning journalist and contributing editor to Ms. Magazine, will present "America's 'Minority' Majority and the Emergence of Asian Americans" on Wednesday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. in the Student Union Apollo Room. The event is free and open to the public. Zia will address such questions as: Can Asian Americans and others move out of invisibility and into their full potential in America? Students of today face different challenges from those of yesteryear, but how different? Can Asian Americans move on to new conversations and images that the new generation offers?(04/13/2005) Groundbreaking ceremony held for Joshi Research Center at WSU College of Engineering and Computer Science -- A groundbreaking ceremony for the Krishan and Vicky Joshi Research Center at the Wright State University College of Engineering and Computer Science was held today, April 11.(04/11/2005) Wright State Model UN team wins awards for the 26th consecutive year -- For the 26th consecutive year, a team of Wright State University students earned top awards at the National Model UN Conference in New York City. Representing France, the team won the two highest awards, Outstanding Delegation and Outstanding Position Paper. (04/11/2005) Nobel Laureate Arno Penzias to speak at Wright State University -- Arno Penzias, Ph.D., the 1978 Nobel Prize winner in Physics for his work in radio astronomy, which provided critical evidence supporting the Big Bang Theory, will speak at Wright State University as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Penzias will speak on small scale Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems on Wednesday, April 13, at 10 a.m. in the Discovery Room, E163 Student Union on the Wright State campus.(04/11/2005) Wright State students to host senior art auction and art exhibit -- Wright State University senior art majors will hold the Senior Art Auction and the 2005 Senior Art Exhibition on Sunday, April 24, from 2 to 5 p.m., in the University Art Gallery in the Creative Arts Center on campus. Various types of art may be purchased, including printmaking, photography, sculpture and painting. Pieces vary from direct observation to imagination to abstraction. A silent auction will follow the live auction, with proceeds going to support the Senior Art Exhibition. (04/05/2005) Poetry reading by Gerald Stern to highlight National Poetry Month activities at Wright State -- As part of its celebration of National Poetry Month, Wright State University will host Gerald Stern, author of 14 books of poetry and winner of the 1998 National Book Award. Stern will give a poetry reading on Monday, April 18, at 2 p.m. in the Discovery Room, E163 Student Union on the Wright State campus. A reception and book signing will follow the reading, which is free and open to the public.(04/04/2005) April is National Donate Life Month: Mother and daughter demonstrate their life connection -- When Lorie Venable went to an informational meeting to learn about the possibility of donating a kidney to her mother, Marilyn McCauley, she knew she would be able to sacrifice in order to help her mother. (04/04/2005) Wright State Habitat students plan sleep-out to increase awareness of poverty housing -- The Wright State Chapter of Habitat for Humanity has scheduled a sleep-out on the campus quad on Wednesday, April 6, from 9 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 7. Students will sleep in cardboard boxes to simulate the lives of the millions of people who live without adequate housing. The group also will be collecting donations for the Greene County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. (04/01/2005)
