WSU Project Linus chapter invites you to help children in need -- The public is invited to a blanket-making marathon May 9, 2009, in the Wright State University Student Union Atrium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The blankets made during the event will be donated to needy children in local shelters and hospitals. Lake Campus professor’s research to be featured on National Geographic channel -- A paper by Lake Campus Associate Professor Chuck Ciampaglio, Ph.D., on the ancestry of great white sharks—and their teeth—will be a key piece of an episode of Prehistoric Predators: on the National Geographic Channel. Prehistoric Predators: Monster Shark, which includes a shark jaw model filmed at Lake Campus and created by Ciampaglio, is set to air on the National Geographic Channel on April 28 at 10 p.m. EST.(04/21/2009)

Tour Wright State's "green" building and celebrate Earth Day on April 22 -- The public is invited to celebrate Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, at Wright State with a tour of the university's "green" building, the first laboratory in Ohio to be recognized nationally for its energy efficiency and green design. Wright State student wins statewide community service award -- Wright State University senior Jennifer Otto has been awarded a 2009 Charles J. Ping Student Service Award by the Ohio Campus Compact. WSU student Kelli Sexton to be honored by Womanline for leadership, service -- Wright State University undergraduate student Kelli Sexton is one of three outstanding young women from the region who will be honored by Womanline of Dayton, Inc., for their dedication to leadership and service. The Young Women Leaders Award will be presented at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at Womanline's annual luncheon and fashion show at the Mandalay Banquet Center. It's the second year for the award, which is also sponsored by Wright State University, University of Dayton and Sinclair Community College.(04/13/2009)

Wright State's Winkler awarded prestigious Roosevelt Naval History Prize -- Jonathan Reed Winkler, Ph.D., assistant professor of history at Wright State University, has been awarded the 2008 Theodore & Franklin D. Roosevelt Naval History Prize for his landmark book, Nexus: Strategic Communications and American Security in World War I (Harvard University Press, 2008). The book demonstrates how the United States battled to create a global communications network to conduct operations during the Great War, and how doing so established the U.S. as the dominant power of the century. Islam expert, author Reza Aslan to give lecture at WSU -- Internationally known writer and scholar of comparative religions Reza Aslan will give a free, public lecture at Wright State University on Wednesday, April 15, at 7 p.m. as part of the 2008–09 Presidential Lecture Series. Aslan is the author of the critically acclaimed book No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam.(04/10/2009)

Wright State and B-W Greenway Community Land Trust host Spring Chautauqua on LEED Design -- LEED design will be the topic of an annual Spring Chautauqua Thursday April 23, in Wright State University's Matthew O. Diggs III Laboratory for Life Science Research. The first laboratory in Ohio to receive the LEED-NC Gold status, the Diggs Laboratory is an appropriate site for the chautauqua—or community discussion—on the LEED building rating system, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.(04/9/2009)

Wright State holds open house for Micro Air Vehicle Research Center -- Big ideas are netting remarkably small results at Wright State University. Just as the Wright brothers studied birds to aid in the development of fixed-wing flight, researchers in the College of Engineering and Computer Science have turned their attention to nature for inspiration to create the perfect micro air vehicle (MAV). On Monday, April 13, the public is invited to see the vehicle in flight at the Micro Air Vehicle Research Center open house.(04/08/2009)
