Student success in stock market simulation at Wright State -- The WSU Raj Soin College of Business and James Investment Research sponsored the Ohio Stock Market Simulation for students in 15 counties throughout West Central Ohio. The goal was to interest students in finance and investing through a 10-week program.(05/30/2006)

How fast can you cut the lawn? -- Cutting a lawn is not normally associated with pursuing a college degree. But for a group of engineering students at Wright State University, this activity will soon assume paramount importance. WSU is one of seven entries in the Third Annual Institute of Navigation (ION) Autonomous Lawnmower Competition scheduled for June 1-3 on the Wright State campus. The public is invited to see the teams compete on Saturday, June 3. (05/30/2006)

Wright State graduate Selena Burks receives prestigious national award -- Thanks to a prestigious Media Arts Fellowship from National Video Resources (NVR), Wright State alumna Selena Burks can focus her considerable creative energies on her next film production. One of 20 film, video and new media artists in the U.S. to receive the NVR fellowship, film maker Burks will receive a $35,000 grant to produce Fuse, the story of her foster sister’s erratic teenage years as a runaway. Burks’ first film, Saving Jackie, a documentary portrait of her mother’s dependence on crack cocaine, premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.(05/30/2006)

Learn to patent your invention at Wright State Libraries workshop -- The Wright State University Libraries—one of 82 locations nationwide of federal government patent and trademark resources—is again helping budding inventors learn what it takes to receive a patent or trademark for their ideas. Summer fun for teens, children includes space exploration, developing interpersonal skills, creating balloon sculptures -- Looking for something both fun and educational for the kids to do over the summer? Balloon sculptures for elementary children, space exploration for middle school youth, interpersonal skills for high school students and more are offered for grades K-12 through the Wright State University Office of Pre-College Programs. WSU student pursues religion major for sake of learning -- Brian Schell was awarded a 2006 Award of Excellence from Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest and most selected all-discipline honor society. WSU students bring mental health information to underserved -- Twenty-five Doctoral students at the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology (SOPP) will put their training into practice by staffing a Mental Health Awareness Day on Friday, May 12, to provide the underserved and other Dayton residents with the opportunity to learn more about this major public health concern in America and where they can turn for help. WSU student engineers overcome obstacles to win national aero design model airplane competition -- The old adage “If at first you don’t succeed, then try again” certainly pertains to a group of mechanical engineering students at Wright State University. The team of William Bennett, Tye Gietzen and Adrienne Schaab was competing at an aero design event in Georgia when the radio controlled airplane they designed crashed in all three launch attempts on the first day of competition. However, the seniors learned from their mistakes, corrected the damaged plane and returned on the second day to successfully complete all the required maneuvers and win first place in their class. Wright State professor honored with national award from Panama -- The writings of one of Wright State University’s newest professors are focusing big attention on the little country of Panama. Damaris Serrano, assistant professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages, has won a prestigious national award from Panama for her work, Panamanian Literature: History, Nation, Society. Wright State wireless engineering program responds to industry needs -- Wireless engineering is exploding on the American landscape. From cell phones and PDAs to personal computers and remote sensing for homeland security, wireless technology is transforming our lives. The Wright State University College of Engineering and Computer Science is meeting the technology needs created by this rapidly expanding market this fall by launching an undergraduate wireless engineering program. WSU’s Model U.N. team celebrates 27th anniversary with 27th straight award-winning year -- Wright State University’s National Model United Nations team continued its award-winning tradition, bringing home a first place award for top position paper and a third place for honorable delegation. Competing in New York City April 11–15, against students from 225 other universities from five continents, Wright State’s team received top honors for the 27th straight year.(05/01/2006)
