Mark Gebhart receives Recent Graduate Award from Wright State University Alumni Association -- The Wright State University Alumni Association named Mark Gebhart, M.D., EMS coordinator for Montgomery County, assistant professor for the Wright State University Department of Emergency Medicine and a 1997 Wright State graduate, the winner of the Recent Graduate Award. He was recognized during the recent Alumni Achievement Awards Ceremony held on campus.(07/27/2005) Frank Lickliter II receives Athletics Alumni Award from Wright State University Alumni Association -- The Wright State University Alumni Association named Frank Lickliter II, a professional golfer on the PGA Tour, the winner of the Athletics Alumni Award of Excellence. (07/27/2005) Open house set at Wright State for prospective undergraduate, graduate students -- Prospective students interested in undergraduate and graduate programs at Wright State University can explore their options in a relaxed setting at an open house and coffee bar scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, in the WSU Student Union Atrium.(07/25/2005) Wright State Field School in Archaeology hosts Open Site Day -- The Wright State University Field School in Archaeology will host its annual Open Site Day on Friday, July 29, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Pollock Works, a Hopewell culture ceremonial hilltop enclosure located in Greene County’s Indian Mound Reserve. The event gives the public a chance to watch the uncovering of buried artifacts and ask questions about the project. (07/25/2005) Wright State’s Center for Urban and Public Affairs announces United Way gift to fund Greene County Partnerships for Success -- The United Way of the Greater Dayton Area has allocated $25,000 to support the continuation of Greene County Partnerships for Success (PfS), a local nonprofit serving youth and communities in Greene County coordinated by Wright State University’s Center for Urban and Public Affairs and Greene County Family and Children First. The gift will help to sustain the initiative and greatly benefit Greene County youth and their families.(07/25/2005) Wright State University Art Galleries exhibits Summerbridge Dayton student artwork and “Selections from the Permanent Collection” -- Artwork created by Summerbridge Dayton students will be on display Tuesday, July 26 through Friday, July 29, at the University Art Galleries in the Creative Arts Center at Wright State University. In addition, “Selections from the Permanent Collection” is on display until Friday, Aug. 12. (07/25/2005) Nathan Klingbeil receives Wright State University Robert J. Kegerreis Distinguished Professor of Teaching award -- Nathan Klingbeil, Ph.D., associate professor of mechanical and materials engineering at Wright State University, has been named the university’s Robert J. Kegerreis Distinguished Professor of Teaching. The award, named for Wright State’s second president, recognizes outstanding teaching by a faculty member. (07/21/2005) Percy Mack to address Summerbridge graduates in upcoming ceremonies at Wright State -- Percy Mack, Ph.D., superintendent of Dayton Public Schools, will be the guest speaker at graduation ceremonies for Summerbridge Dayton on Friday, July 29, in Fawcett Hall Room 101 at Wright State University.(07/21/2005) Wright State launches new Web site with expanded features -- Wright State has unveiled a new homepage and redesigned Web site that includes several new features geared to provide more information for users in an easy-to-find format. The new features include an expanded Web calendar of campus events, plus specialized pages dedicated to research, the arts, multicultural events and more.(07/19/2005) Wright State University student wins Ohio Young Soloists competition -- Tyler Williams, a Wright State University student majoring in communication, won first prize in the recent Ohio Young Soloist competition sponsored by Very Special Arts of Ohio (VSAO). The Young Soloist Awards recognize musicians with disabilities age 25 and under. Williams, who has cerebral palsy and is blind, played and sang bluegrass music for the competition.(07/19/2005) Wright State presents information session on Raj Soin College of Business graduate programs -- Enjoy a cup of coffee while you think about advancing your career at an information session on graduate business programs on Thursday, July 28, at Wright State University.(07/15/2005) Wright State University Libraries receive grant for oral history of Wright-Patt Cold War technology -- The Cold War, generally considered the years from 1945 to 1991, stimulated the aggressive development of modern military technology. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) played an early and major role in this development. Many of the persons who developed these technologies are still living in the Miami Valley, but their experiences and stories are largely unknown. Thanks to a grant of more than $100,000 from the U.S. Department of Defense, the Wright State University Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives will hire an archivist/historian to design and conduct an oral history project as the basis for a Cold War technology-history archive. The historian will be based on campus.
(07/11/2005) Wright State receives $3 million grant to study learning with disabilities -- The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Wright State University a five-year, $3 million grant to establish a new integrated interdisciplinary research and education program for training doctoral students in methods for teaching students with disabilities. Students may elect the technology-based learning with disability concentration as part of one of the following Wright State Ph.D. programs: biomedical sciences; human factors/industrial organizational psychology; engineering; and computer science and engineering.(07/11/2005) Joseph Petrick named Brage Golding Distinguished Professor of Research -- Joseph Petrick, professor of management in the Raj Soin College of Business, was named the Brage Golding Distinguished Professor of Research. Named after Wright State's first president, the award recognizes outstanding research by a Wright State faculty member.(07/10/2005) WSU students win national competition in accounting for fifth time in 13 years -- The unprecedented success of Wright State University accountancy students continued recently when they won the National Student Case Competition sponsored by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).(07/06/2005)
