Top national business leaders in diversity practices to share success stories at Wright State forum -- Top officials with two firms that have gained nationwide recognition for their diversity practices will share the secrets of their success at the second annual Best Practices in Diversity Forum on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Wright State University’s Nutter Center Berry Room.(09/21/2006)

WSU, UD, UC, SCC co-host regional conference on student learning, accountability -- Consistent with national conversations, accountability in higher education occupies the center stage in Ohio. Wright State University, the University of Dayton, University of Cincinnati and Sinclair Community College will co-host a southwest Ohio regional conference on accountability in higher education on Friday, Sept. 22, at Wright State’s Student Union Endeavour Room. The event is planned for 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and sponsored by the Ohio Board of Regents (OBR). (09/20/2006)

Critical need for computer scientists, engineers brings WSU, NCR together for open house/job fair -- NCR, a global leader in this field with world headquarters in Dayton, is collaborating with Wright State’s College of Engineering and Computer Science to present an open house/job fair titled “Exploring the Technology Behind NCR.” The Monday, Sept. 25, event in the Russ Engineering Building Lobby is geared to two audiences. WSU engineering students are invited from 1 to 4 p.m., with Miami Valley high school students, teachers and counselors attending from 4 to 6 p.m. (09/20/2006)

How to spend productive seniors years topic for lecture at Wright State -- As Americans live longer, society is forced to deal with how our seniors can spend their golden years leading a productive life. As their physical skills decline, the elderly must come to grips with ways to live out their days in a meaningful state. Thomas Cole, a leading specialist on attitudes toward aging, will discuss these concerns in a keynote address at Wright State University on Saturday, Sept. 30. His 2 p.m. talk in 109 Oelman Hall is free to the public and sponsored by a special grant from the Wright State Office of the President. (09/20/2006)

Wright State doctorate program leads nation in internship placements -- It’s a highly competitive world for psychology doctoral students seeking an internship assignment. With as many as 50 applicants per opening, the students need to clearly demonstrate their mastery of the skills needed for the training position in order to be successful. Students in the Psy.D. program at the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology (SOPP) have learned these lessons well. Doctoral program internship match figures over the last seven years showed SOPP’s rate of 93 percent ranked first among U.S. professional schools of psychology. The 93 percent rate for Wright State compares to the national average of 75 percent. (09/18/2006)

Solutions to youth violence explored during Fifth Annual Youth and Family Conference -- Middle school and senior high school students and their families can learn important information on mentoring opportunities, dealing with conflict, HIV/AIDS prevention and more during the Fifth Annual Youth and Family Conference. Sponsored by the Wright State University Office of Pre-College Programs, the University of Dayton, Montgomery County Juvenile Court, the Wesley Community Center, Parity Inc., and the Dayton Public Schools, the event is Saturday, Oct. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Union at the University of Dayton. Panel of experts to discuss health and aging issues -- Local experts from a variety of fields, including the arts, religion, medicine, gender studies, social work and psychology, will examine health challenges and aging and how these are viewed in our times during a panel discussion “doubleheader” on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m., in 109 Oelman Hall on the Wright State University campus. The event, which is free of charge, is part of an art exhibition and related events titled “Time’s Body of Evidence: An Interdisciplinary Look at Health and Aging,” continuing through Sunday, Oct. 15.(09/13/2006)

Ohio Certified Public Manager Program begins this fall in Cincinnati -- Public managers at the city, county, state and federal level in the Cincinnati area who want to develop their professional skills will soon have the opportunity to do so. A new Ohio Certified Public Manager Program (OCPM) cohort will begin on Monday, Oct. 2, at the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, 8600 Governors Hill Drive, Cincinnati. (09/7/2006)

New Wright State program examines forces at work around the world -- In today’s post-9/11 world, it is as important to know your enemies—as Sun Tzu wrote 2,400 years ago in his classic book of strategy, The Art of War—as it is to know your friends. Students in Wright State’s new Master of Arts in International and Comparative Politics program learn both as they examine the cultural, historical, economic and political forces at work around the world. A new program in the School of Graduate Studies, the degree combines many areas of expertise, including terrorism, human rights, democratization, corruption, weapons proliferation and international conflict, with courses on theories, research design and methods to create a well-rounded degree geared toward students interested in a wide array of international topics. Wright State offers courses in Clayton to attract students from northwest Montgomery County -- right State University is increasing its presence in northwest Montgomery County. University officials announced today that classes will be offered at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center in Clayton when fall quarter classes begin next week. (09/01/2006)
