Martinsen named WSU's chief of police --
Michael Martinsen will become Wright State University's chief of police this week, taking over for Simone Polk, who will continue in her duties as assistant vice president for student services. The chief of police and director of campus safety at Ohio University since 2006, Martinsen has more than 19 years of experience in planning and managing investigations, security, public service and police force activities.(09/30/2008) The Jim Gaffigan Hot Pockets® Chowdown at WSU Oct. 2 -- Comedian Jim Gaffigan's Hot Pockets® routine about freezer burn and microwave hot lava goes to a new level of hilarity Thursday, Oct. 2, when six Wright State students compete to see who will be the first to chow down on four Hot Pockets® brand stuffed sandwiches—and keep them down. The winners, one male and one female, will each win $100 cash, the opportunity to meet Gaffigan and two tickets to his show that night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Representatives from Wright State University and Edison Community College signed the first two-plus-two transfer agreement between the schools during a daylong visit to Wright State's Dayton campus by Ohio's chancellor of education, Eric Fingerhut, on Friday, Sept. 26.(09/26/2008) Wright State's student headcount is second-highest in its history -- Wright State University's student headcount for Fall 2008 is the second-highest in its history. The enrollment increase included significant gains for first-time-freshmen, Lake Campus and high school students taking college courses.(09/25/2008) Wright State's Wheatly inducted into Ohio Women's Hall of Fame -- Michele Wheatly, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Wright State University, has been inducted into the Ohio's Women's Hall of Fame.(09/18/2008) Wright State awarded NSF grant for improving gender equity in STEM fields -- Wright State University has been awarded a five-year, $2.86 million National Science Foundation ADVANCE grant to increase the representation of women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields in the Dayton region.(09/16/2008) After the storm: a message from Human Resources -- As you know, many in our university community are unable to come to work today due to the damage caused by yesterday's wind storm. Wright State is among the 262 Best National Universities listed in the "America's Best Colleges 2009" rankings by U.S. News and World Reports, and was also designated a "Best in the Midwest" college in The Princeton Review's 2009 college rankings.(09/12/2008) State releases funding for Oelman Hall renovation -- Funding for the renovation of one of Wright State University's original buildings was released by the State of Ohio September 8. The $5.2 million released from the controlling board is part of $8.5 million in capital funding for science lab renovations approved in June by Gov. Ted Strickland as part of the fiscal year 2009 and 2010 Capital Appropriations/Budget Corrections bill (H.B. 496).
