Post traumatic stress disorder key issue for Wright State psychologist returning to Iraq -- The battlefields aren’t the only locations in Iraq where American soldiers can contract post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), according to a Dayton-area psychologist who has served extensively in the Middle East war zone and will be returning soon for her fourth tour.(09/30/2009) WSU and Fairborn break ground on National Center for Medical Readiness Tactical Laboratory at Calamityville -- Representatives from Wright State University and the city of Fairborn, along with government officials and area business and military leaders, gathered at the site of the former CEMEX facility in Fairborn today to mark the groundbreaking for the National Center for Medical Readiness Tactical Laboratory (NCMR-TL) at Calamityville.(09/28/2009) Breast cancer myths exposed by Wright State researcher -- With Breast Cancer Awareness Month coming up in October, a Wright State University nursing professor with extensive experience in mammography screening and women’s health issues believes it’s extremely important to clarify some myths and false information over this health concern, especially as it affects African American and Latina women.(09/23/2009) Record number of students enrolled at Wright State this fall -- After focusing on helping families afford a high-quality college education despite the economy, Wright State University is experiencing its highest enrollment in school history. Wright State is reporting a university-wide total of 18,786 students for Fall 2009, a 6.4 percent increase over last year's headcount of 17,662 students.(09/23/2009) Electrifying art experience opens Sunday, Sept. 13 at Wright State -- The Miami Valley will get an astonishing glimpse of art innovation in September when the Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries at Wright State University brings two high-tech art events to the region.
Beginning Sunday, Sept. 13, the Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries will be transformed by an LED light installation by world-renowned artist Erwin Redl. The high-tech art experience continues the following Friday with a sound collage performance by the Minneapolis-based duo Beatrix*JAR at downtown Dayton's c{space. Both Redl and Beatrix*JAR use technology to create arresting art experiences.
(09/19/2009) Wright State celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with free public events -- A variety of free activities -- including an art exhibit of folk art quilts, lecture on “Latinos in the Heartland” and Latino night of ethnic music -- is scheduled from Sept. 17 to Oct. 13 for Hispanic Heritage Month for 2009 at Wright State University.(09/18/2009) WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine professor appointed to World Health Organization technology project -- Katherine Cauley, Ph.D., associate professor of community health with the WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine and director of the school’s Center for Healthy Communities, was selected to serve on the WHO Expert Advisory Group for Innovative Technologies for the “Global Initiative on Health Technologies” project. Cauley is the only U.S. representative to the group.(09/17/2009) Wright State co-sponsors Ohio's first Civil Rights Hall of Fame -- Wright State University joined its partners, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc., Thursday morning at a formal ceremony honoring 10 citizens who have made significant contributions to the progress of civil rights and equal justice in the state of Ohio.
The program served to establish Ohio’s first-ever Civil Rights Hall of Fame and will continue on an annual basis. Through the collective efforts of the four partner organizations, the program will occur as Ohio celebrates the 50th anniversary of the enactment of the Ohio Civil Rights Act and establishment of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.
