Oil landscapes by New York artist Albert Kresch featured in art exhibition at Wright State -- A series of small-scale oil landscapes by prominent New York artist Albert Kresch will be on view at the Wright State University Art Galleries from Nov. 5 through Jan. 7.(10/31/2006) Poet, actor Saul Williams to make first local appearance at Wright State -- The groundbreaking poet and actor will appear at Wright State University on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Apollo Room of the Student Union on the Wright State campus. The Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center and Way With Words poetry society sponsor Williams’ appearance, his first in the Dayton area.

(10/31/2006) WSU Joshi Research Center and daytaOhio open new frontier in innovation -- The Wright State University College of Engineering and Computer Science unveiled its new Krishan and Vicky Joshi Research Center, home to daytaOhio, in a dedication ceremony today on the WSU campus. The ceremony, attended by Ohio Governor Bob Taft, WSU President Kim Goldenberg, and representatives from governmental, academic and corporate partners, marked the grand opening of daytaOhio and the new $10 million Joshi Research Center adjoining the WSU Fritz and Dolores Russ Engineering Center.(10/27/2006) Wright State celebrates American Indian art, culture, films and more -- Through a series of special events on campus, Wright State University is celebrating the culture, art and contributions of American Indians during Native American Heritage Month. All events are free and open to the public.(10/27/2006) John A. Bantle named Wright State University vice president for research and graduate studies -- John (Jack) A. Bantle II, Ph.D., a nationally recognized scholar and innovator, has been named vice president for research and graduate studies at Wright State University, effective January 2, 2007. He replaces Jay Thomas, Ph.D., another nationally recognized leader in research, who will continue as Wright State’s dean of graduate studies.(10/26/2006) Learn what Wright State offers at special event for high school students -- “Wright From The Start Day” is planned for Saturday, Nov. 4, to help Ohio high school juniors and seniors consider Wright State University for their college experience. The 9 a.m. to noon event will be held in the Student Union.(10/25/2006) North Korea uses nuclear test to seek recognition, says WSU expert on weapons of mass destruction -- The current actions of North Korea regarding their recent nuclear test are more about recognition on the world stage than an actual threat of war, according to Liam Anderson, Ph.D., an associate professor of political science at Wright State University who teaches a course on weapons of mass destruction.(10/23/2006) Teens in WSU summer enrichment program supporting our troops in Iraq -- At-risk middle school students in a Wright State University summer enrichment program are learning how they can make a difference for our troops fighting overseas. Participants in the Summerbridge Dayton program will spend two hours at the nationwide Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 28, packaging items to send to American troops fighting in Iraq.(10/23/2006) International authors to join Studs Terkel at Schuster Center award ceremony Nov. 5 -- Internationally known authors Francine Prose and Stephen Walker will join Studs Terkel, recipient of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for Lifetime Achievement, at the Schuster Center Nov. 5, when they are awarded the first Dayton Literary Peace Prizes in fiction and non-fiction.(10/20/2006) Multicultural Halloween at Wright State features worldwide fall celebrations -- Halloween in America means pumpkins, costumes, goblins, candy and trick or treat. But in other cultures, similar fall events are observed in different ways. Ask Sherwin-Williams -- Wright State University graduate Susan Keough, now vice president of human resources for the Midwestern Division Paint Stores Group of Sherwin-Williams, will present “Human Resources: Creating Value for Sherwin-Williams,” on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 8 a.m. in the Berry Room of the Nutter Center on the Wright State campus. The event is part of the Contemporary Issues in Human Resources Lecture Series sponsored by the Department of Management in the Raj Soin College of Business and Right Management Consultants.(10/17/2006) Iraq expert at Wright State to discuss nation-building dilemma for war-torn country -- Factors that are needed for success in nation building are missing in Iraq and always have been, according to Liam Anderson, Ph.D., an associate professor of political science at Wright State University and expert on Iraq. He will discuss this situation at the WSU College of Liberal Arts (COLA) Fall Faculty Lecture Series on Thursday, Oct. 26. His 7 p.m. public lecture in the Millett Atrium is titled “Perils of Nation Building in Iraq.”

(10/11/2006) Plain talk on Alzheimer’s in new book by WSU School of Professional Psychology faculty member -- When these circumstances occur, what can family, friends and caregivers say and do to understand what the patient is going through and help them through this difficult period in their life? George Kraus, Ph.D., an adjunct professor and clinical faculty member at the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology, provides answers to this question in his just- released book At Wit’s End: Plain Talk on Alzheimer’s for Families and Clinicians published by Purdue University Press.

The legacy of Swedish tycoon Alfred Nobel, the Nobel Peace Prize has been hailed as “the greatest honor a man can receive in this world.” Men and women who have received the prize since the first award in 1901 include Theodore Roosevelt, Bertha Von Suttner, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Mother Teresa.
