Holiday tradition Madrigal Dinner returns to Wright State -- Celebrate the holiday season during Wright State University’s 23rd annual Madrigal Dinner, Thursday, Dec. 1, through Sunday, Dec. 4, in the Student Union. Prepare for entertainment by the lords and ladies, roving musicians, marionettes, singers, dancers and a court jester while enjoying a great madrigal feast.(11/29/2005) 850 Middle school students explore science at WSU -- In order to help more Ohio students pursue science, a college education and science careers, Wright State University’s College of Science and Mathematics, through its “Exploring Science” program, is helping tomorrow’s scientists today. This week, more than 850 middle school students from Greene and Montgomery counties will learn science through hands-on workshops led by Wright State faculty and students. Middle school students will be on campus four mornings a week to complete projects in mathematics, chemistry, biology, geology, environmental sciences, psychology, engineering, neuroscience and anatomy. Hands-on sessions will allow students to explore the wonders of science as taught by Wright State faculty, many of whom have international reputations in their field. (11/28/2005) WSU to offer swimming lessons for kids ages 4 to 18 -- Keep the kids active this winter by enrolling them in Wright State University’s swim lessons beginning in January. Sponsored by the Wright State swim team, classes are open to swimmers of any ability level who are ages 4 to 18.(11/18/2005) WSU engineering professor with passion for teaching earns Ohio Professor of the Year honor -- Nathan Klingbeil has been cited as Ohio’s 2005 Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). (11/17/2005) Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. Program at WSU presents honors at 25th anniversary celebration -- The Wright State University Biomedical Sciences (BMS) Ph.D. Program recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a reunion on campus that included the presentations of several awards to alumni and faculty for distinguished contributions. (11/17/2005) WSU team places third in regional ethics bowl competition -- A team of five Wright State University undergraduates placed third recently in the Seventh Annual Midwestern Regional Ethics Bowl, the largest regional ethics bowl in the nation.(11/16/2005) Wright State to hold fall commencement Nov. 19 -- Wright State University will hold its 39th semiannual commencement ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m., in the Ervin J. Nutter Center on campus.(11/16/2005) Search for life’s path involves considerable soul searching claims author who speaks on Thursday at Wright State -- Parker Palmer, a noted educator, author and activist, explores topics in his book Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation that was required reading for first-year Wright State University students in the 2004-05 academic year. He will visit the WSU campus on Thursday, Nov. 17, to discuss his book at 1 p.m. in the Medical Sciences Auditorium. His public lecture is free and sponsored by University College.(11/10/2005) Learn about patents at workshop sponsored by Wright State University Libraries -- Attend a free patent research workshop offered by the Wright State Universities Libraries, one of the few locations nationwide of federal government patent and trademark resources. The workshop is set for Saturday, Nov. 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. in Room 241 of the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library on the WSU campus.(11/09/2005) Open House events set at Wright State for prospective undergraduate, graduate students -- Prospective undergraduate and graduate students at Wright State University are invited to upcoming open houses to learn more about the academic programs and student life at the university. An open house for undergraduates is scheduled for 9 a.m. until noon at the Student Union on Saturday, Nov. 5, and an open house for graduate students is set for 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the Student Union Atrium.(11/07/2005) How witches in literature evolved from good to evil subject for lecture at Wright State -- Witches in literature haven’t always been evil. Several hundred years ago, they were portrayed in England as positive characters. But from the 12th to 16th century they evolved into evil creatures. How this came about is the topic for the Tuesday, Nov. 8, College of Liberal Arts (COLA) Faculty Lecture Series at Wright State University. Heidi Breuer, Ph.D, an assistant professor of English, will speak on “Representing Magic: Insular vs. Continental European Traditions” at 4 p.m. in the Millett Hall Atrium. The program is free and open to the public.(11/04/2005) Major national, regional accounting leaders commit to long-term mentoring of WSU business students -- The top national and regional accounting firms will lead the way to provide mentors for high achieving students through an innovative Wright State University Raj Soin College of Business accounting leadership program (ALP) that will begin next fall.(11/3/2005) Wright State schedules pilot program of 30 courses for one month in December -- Wright State University is experimenting with a one-month pilot program of some 30 classes that will be offered on an accelerated basis in such fields as English, mathematics, communications, nursing and women’s studies during winter break. (11/2/2005) Author calls for revolution in values to correct foreign dislike of America -- Mark Hertsgaard, a journalist and author of The Eagle’s Shadow: Why America Fascinates and Infuriates the World, will visit the WSU campus on Monday, Nov. 7, to discuss his book in a lecture titled “A Safer America, A Safer World.” His 1:30 p.m. address in the Student Union Apollo Room will be free and open to the public.
