Famed humanitarian, artist Harry Belafonte to visit Wright State -- Called “the consummate entertainer” for his achievements as a concert singer, recording artist, movie, Broadway and television star and producer, Harry Belafonte is also respected around the world for his human rights activities. The famed actor, composer, author, producer, singer and activist will speak at Wright State University on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at 1 p.m. in the Student Union Apollo Room. Free and open to the public, the event celebrates the 36th anniversary of Wright State’s Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center and the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and is part of the Presidential Lecture Series.
(12/20/2006) Student affairs officials teach social skills outside classroom to help college students mature -- Gary Dickstein is a WSU assistant vice president for student affairs and enrollment services and director of student judicial services. This second duty takes about 80 percent of his time and led to his recent election as president-elect of the national Association for Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA).(12/11/2006) WSU’s Raj Soin College of Business earns top honor from Dayton Business Journal -- The Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University was recently named the Not-For-Profit Organization of the Year for 2006 by the Dayton Business Journal.(12/11/2006) Swim with the Raiders this winter -- Liven up the cold winter months and help your kids ages 4 to 18 learn proper swimming techniques by enrolling them in Wright State University’s Swimming School. Open to swimmers of any ability, the classes will help students learn the basics of the freestyle stroke, backstroke, breaststroke and more.(12/07/2006) Public told to keep firewood local to help control spread of Emerald Ash Borer -- “Don’t move firewood” was the message to the public at a recent Wright State University presentation on dealing with the Midwest ash tree devastation being caused by the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).(12/7/2006) Wright State celebrates conclusion of first comprehensive fundraising campaign -- Wright State University’s first comprehensive campaign, “Tomorrow Takes Flight,” which raised $123.1 million, concluded Saturday night with a community celebration at the university’s annual Heritage Societies Gala. The immensely successful campaign raised more than triple the original goal set by national benchmarks. Campaign funds will support student scholarships, new academic programs, endowed chairs and professorships, major facility renovations, new buildings, community partnerships and the endowment.
(12/4/2006) Steven Roger Angle named Wright State University provost -- Steven Roger Angle, Ph.D., a nationally recognized researcher, honored educator and experienced administrator, has been named Wright State University’s new provost, effective March 15, 2007. He replaces David Hopkins, who will become Wright State’s sixth president, succeeding Kim Goldenberg, who retires from the presidency effective January 31, 2007. (12/04/2006)
