In
order to receive an Award Notice, students must have:
Applied and been admitted to WSU in a financial
aid eligible program of study;
Filed the FAFSA (see our Federal Student Aid
page); and,
Satisfied all financial aid requirements on
WINGS Express.
The
Office of Financial Aid uses WSU e-mail and WINGS Express (both accessible
through WINGS) as its primary tools for communicating to WSU students.
For more information about WINGS and WINGS Express, visit the WINGS
Resource Center or contact the Help Desk by calling (937) 775-4827,
toll-free at 1-888-775-4827, or by sending e-mail to helpdesk@wright.edu.
Award
Notices are made available to new students (incoming freshmen attending
WSU directly from high school) no sooner than mid-March prior to the upcoming
aid year. Award Notices for continuing students are made available after
the Winter Quarter prior to the start of the upcoming aid year (once their
academic progress has been reviewed). See our Important Dates page for more information.
Determining
Aid Awards
Generally,
schools determine a student's financial need by subtracting the student's
Expected Family Contribution (EFC), taken from the results of the FAFSA,
from the student's cost of attendance (determined by WSU).
Cost
of Attendance – EFC = Financial
Need |
The
cost of attendance includes estimated amounts for tuition and fees, books
and supplies, room and board, transportation, and personal expenses. Total
need-based aid awards, such as grants, scholarships, employment, and subsidized
loans, cannot exceed the student's financial need (certain types of aid,
like the Federal Pell Grant, are excluded from this concept). Non-need
based awards, such as unsubsidized loans and alternative loans, can be
awarded to cover unmet need and to replace the EFC.
Award
Notices display financial aid awards and amounts based upon the student
attending WSU on a full-time basis, even if the student indicated less
than full-time enrollment plans on his or her FAFSA. Once a student accepts
his or her awards and registers for classes, the amount and type of aid
that will credit towards his or her account will be based on the student's
actual registered credit hours. See our Disbursing Aid page for more information.
The most common aid awards require students enroll at least half-time
to receive the monies.
Summer
Aid
When
preparing Award Notices, students are always awarded financial aid for
Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters. In order to receive aid for Summer
Quarter, students must indicate their summer enrollment plans on WINGS
Express. Students who answer YES will have financial aid awarded for Summer,
Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters. Answering YES to summer enrollment
plans does not expedite your Award Notice.
WINGS
Express
Award
Notices can be found on WINGS Express. The Office of Financial Aid shall
send notification via WSU e-mail when your Award Notice is available.

Accepting
Aid Awards
It
is very important students read all the information on their Award Notices
and follow instructions carefully. Grants and scholarships are automatically
accepted on behalf of the student. Employment and loans must be accepted
by the student to initiate processing (with the exception of the Federal
PLUS Loan which must be accepted by the parent applicant).
NOTE:
Accepting a loan on your Award Notice only begins the loan process. There
may be several more steps required to secure your loan and ensure it is
processed correctly. See our Loan Processing page for more information.
