TECHNICAL STUDY LAW ENFORCEMENT OPTION
Associate of Technical Study A.T.S.
The Associate of Technical: Law Enforcement Option prepares students for employment in law enforcement, private security, corrections, juvenile facilities, and public safety settings. Police officers and security professionals provide protection of the general public. As a police office gains experiences and education, here are opportunities for advancement including employment at the federal level such as the secret service, the border patrol, and Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Police officers can achieve advancement in their job as detectives, crime scene analysts, and departmental managers.
Law enforcement officers are expected to assist the investigation of crimes and traffic accidents and assist the public when they are in need of assistance. Other types of law enforcement professionals have more particular enforcement responsibilities.

Police Academy Track – Fourth Quarter – Police Academy and SOC 221 Corrections: Fifth Quarter – Police Academy and LE 103; Sixth Quarter – LE 104, MTH 145, COM 101, and an open elective.
Admission Information:
Advising is a KEY component of this degree.
A minimum of 48 credit hours of the total program must be in a clearly identifiable area of concentration. General Education requirements and basic requirements must each account for a minimum of 21 credit hours of the program total or 42 total credit hours. Prerequisites may need to be completed prior to enrolling in the selected course(s). The Associate of Technical Study Degree requires a minimum of 93 credit hours; graduation requirements are the same as for other A.A.S. and A.A.B. degrees.
Additional Information:
In order to serve in law enforcement, students are required to attend a certified police academy. Students fresh from high school are recommended to enroll in the program and when completed, enter a state police academy. The Law Enforcement program option at the Lake Campus provides assistance for students in learning about the various careers available and the needed certifications to be a commissioned police officer.

- Law Enforcement with the Police Academy
- Law Enforcement with OPOTA Class Waiver (21-23 credits if students is OPOTA certified).
Note: If the Police Academy isi not being held the student will be referred to other Police Academies.
The Grand Lake Law Enforcement Academy is located at the Lake Campus and provides training to qualified applicants. In addition, there are other regional academies available. Currently employed law enforcement officers that have completed a certified Ohio Peace Office Basic Training Academy (since 2002) may be able to receive up to 21 credit hours of course waivers.
Students may also consider extending their education. Two related baccalaureate degrees at Wright State University Lake Campus are available: the Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice or the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership including a Criminal Justice minor.
