INTERVENTION SPECIALIST – MILD/MODERATEncate
Master of Education M.Ed.

The Intervention Specialist - Mild/Moderate program of study provides a multiage license and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree.

Candidates not having an undergraduate degree in education may have to take a prerequisite sequence of classes in order to be eligible for a license. Please see an advisor for details.
After successful completion of the licensure portion of the program and passing the Praxis II exam Principles of Learning and Teaching K-6 (#30522) or 5-9 (#30523) or 7-12 (#30524) AND the Praxis II exam Education of Exceptional Students: Core Content Knowledge (#20353), students are eligible for an Ohio provisional Multiage license in Mild/Moderate Needs (K-12) (#196140).

Admission Information:
Intervention Specialist/Special Education teacher candidates who do not have a prior or previous teaching license or teaching certificate and are seeking an initial license in Special Education must complete the following state required prerequisites as preparation for an initial intervention specialist/special educator license.

ED 602 Education in a Pluralistic Society (4 credit hours)
ED 621 Human Development and Learning (4)
EDS 771 Classroom Observation (3) or documentation of school/classroom experiences of at least 30 clock hours (preferably in inclusive settings).
ED 670 K-12 Science Content & Standards for Intervention Specialists/Special Education (4)
ED 670 K-12 Social Studies Content & Standards for Intervention Specialists/Special Education (4)
ED 670 K-12 Math Content & Standards for Intervention Specialists/Special Education (4)

Students will also need to have completed the State Mandated Reading Core Requirements or take the following Reading Core courses:.
ED 606 Reading and Literacy Instruction I: Background & Tools
ED 607 Reading and Literacy Instruction II: Content Literacy Tools
ED 608 Phonics: Word Study
ED 609 Assessment & Intervention
