Nursing

Major

Today’s nurses are important members of the professional health care team dedicated to promoting, maintaining, and restoring health. Nurses combine scientific knowledge, skillful hands-on care, and a concern for people to meet individual, family, and community health care needs. Nurses who hold a baccalaureate degree often assume positions of greater responsibility and leadership. Registered nurses are needed in health care settings, such as schools, industry, community health centers, hospitals, home health care, private practice, and the military services.

  • The College of Nursing and Health is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and is also approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
  • Clinical experiences are available in a variety of settings, including day care centers, schools, hospitals, senior citizens’ centers, and industry.
  • Students gain practical, hands-on simulated clinical experience in the state-of-the-art College of Nursing and Health Learning Laboratory.
  • Wright State offers an Internet-based R.N. to B.S.N. completion program for students who have an associate degree in nursing.
  • Upon completion of the B.S.N. degree, students are eligible to take the State Board (NCLEX) examination.
  • The College of Nursing and Health strongly recommends that students complete at least three units of high school science, including chemistry.
  • Admission to the College of Nursing and Health is competitive. Complete admission requirements are provided in the undergraduate catalog.
  • BEACON Program-Baccalaureate Entry Accelerates Career Opportunities in Nursing is an accelerated 15-month nursing program specifically designed for college graduates seeking to enter the nursing field.
