WSU Department of Music Newsletter
Vol. VI Issue 1 Fall, 2009
Message from the Chair
Greetings from the Department of Music at Wright State University! We are now “back at it” in a new academic year. It is amazing to me how fast the summer flies by.
There is a great deal of excitement in the Department of Music. Much of this is detailed in the rest of this newsletter. I would, however, like to highlight some of these events and activities:
- The renovation of the Concert Hall is moving forward!! Now named “The Benjamin and Marian Schuster Hall” the plan we have received from the architects and consultants will expand and update this wonderful hall.
- Mr. Bill Jobert, Instructor of Music, has been named Coordinator of Music Education. In this capacity he will the key liaison for all of our students majoring in music education. On a different note, Mr. Jobert also received Wright State University Presidential Award for Excellence, Outstanding Instructor.
- New degrees are now being offered and others are being planned.
- Most importantly the Department of Music along with the Department of Art and Art History, and the Department of Theatre, Dance, and Motion Pictures, has been named a Wright State University Center of Excellence. Named CELIA (Collaborative Education and Leadership in the Arts), this center will coordinate all the various collaborations between the arts and other organizations on and off the WSU Campus.
On top of all this everyone in the Department of Music is actively working to move our curriculum from the “quarter system” to the “semester system”. Going into effect in Fall, 2012, the entire campus is caught up in this transition. In the Department of Music, we have looked at this process as an opportunity to look at our curriculum and the courses we offer to make sure that our students are getting the very best education we can offer.
There is indeed a lot going on in the Department of Music. As I have stated in the past, please stop in and visit us if you find yourself in the area. A great deal has changed on the Wright State University campus. I think you will be impressed.
Sincerely
Herbert Dregalla
Chair, Department of Music
