Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science - Music Option
Beginning in Fall, 2009, Wright State University will offer a new degree option: Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science-Music Option. The degree has been fully approved on the WSU Campus and by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The degree was designed in response to requests from students and parents to have a degree option for students with an interest in both Music and Computer Science.
There is one current student already matriculated into this degree.
Because most employers in computer science areas require a secondary field, the degree is an excellent option for those individuals with a background/interest in music who are interested in a career in computer science. The degree is also seen as providing entry level skills for a person interested in a career related to music technology.
Sometime soon, the Department of Music will begin work on a BA in Music-Computer Science Option. This degree will focus more intensely on music technology. Mr. Steve Hampton, owner of Emotomusic, a Los Angeles based music-advertising and television music firm, will be a consultant for this degree in addition to teaching web-based and real-time IChat courses in the curriculum.
