Distance LearningDistance Learning is on the rise! Two terms used at Wright State when describing distance learning are Web-enhanced and Web-only. Web-enhanced courses are those in which the Web is used to strengthen the traditional classroom learning environment with online resources, discussions, and/or activities. Some online activities may be required to complete the course. A student enrolled in a Web-enhanced course is still required to attend class sessions on campus. These courses will also follow the conventional quarter start/finish schedule. Web-only courses are taught entirely online and can be taken from your home, school, office, etc. A faculty member within a Web-course management system called WebCT administers course content, discussions, interactions, and resources. Attendance in a physical classroom is minimal to none. You can find a current list of distance learning courses as well as technical requirements (computer type, software, etc.) on the Distance Learning Web site at www.wright.edu/dl/. SafetyIn case of fire, bomb threat, chemical spill, or any similar emergency condition, the fire alarm system will be activated. Exit signs are located through out the buildings to guide you to the closest exit. All exits leading outside the building are marked with the standard illuminated Exit signs. When the fire alarm bell sounds or when warning is given over the public address system, you should move quickly but calmly to the nearest exit. If you have time, close the door(s) behind you. If you are on an upper floor, use the enclosed stairwells to descend to ground level exits. Never re-enter the building until university public safety officers have declared it safe. Never use the elevator in response to any emergency. If you are physically incapable of using the stairwells alone, proceed to a stairwell and wait for someone to aid you. In the event of a tornado warning or other severe weather condition, sirens located above the campus quadrangle, as well as in lot 4, will be activated and will be supplemented by the indoor public system.
Selective Service and YouA law passed by the Ohio Assembly requires state universities to charge non-resident fees to male Ohio resident students who are not registered with the Selective Service. In addition, Selective Service registration is linked to many federal and state benefits, including eligibility for federal student loans and grants. Federal law requires virtually all men to register with Selective Service within 30 days of turning 18. Student Legal ServicesThe purpose of Student Legal Services, Inc. is to assist you in identifying and resolving your legal problems, so you may benefit from your educational opportunities at WSU. If a legal problem threatens to interfere with your effectiveness as a student, Student Legal Services, Inc. may aid in resolving or minimizing that legal complication. Our goal is to provide prompt, efficient, and high quality legal assistance and representation for you. Proper attention to any legal matter - even if you do not believe it is serious - will often prevent more complex legal difficulties. A $6.00 fee is automatically billed to your Bursar account along with your tuition each quarter you are enrolled at Wright State University. This fee allows Student Legal Services, Inc. to provide high quality advice and representation to students without requiring additional fees. At your option, you may elect not to pay this fee, by deducting the fee from your Bursar account, and returning the signed waiver form along with your tuition payment. If you fail to pay the participation fee, you will not be able to use Student Legal Services for the entire quarter. Further, you may not pay the fee, after signing the waiver, if a legal problem arises and you need assistance. Refund Policy for Legal Service Fee - Students who register before the first day of the quarter may receive a 100 percent refund during the university's normal 100 percent refund period. Students who register (not add/drop) on or after the first day of the quarter may receive a 100 percent refund of the legal service fee on the day registration occurs. No refund will be given on the following day. For questions regarding the Legal Service Fee, contact the Office of the Bursar, (937)775-5775 or visit the Bursar Web site. Supplemental Instruction[an error occurred while processing this directive]For specific sections this quarter, see Supplemental Instruction or contact your advisor or Tutoring Services, 040 Rike Hall, (937) 775-2280. Writing Across the CurriculumEach WI course has a corresponding co-requisite lab. When registering for a WI course, students are prompted to register for the corresponding “0” credit hour lab. The course and lab must be added simultaneously for registration to occur. Students may not drop a WI course and lab separately. Writing Across the Curriculum in General EducationIn addition to ENG 101 and 102, all undergraduate students must complete at least four Writing Intensive (WI) general education courses, or allowable substitutions.* GE Writing Intensive courses will be available within a number of areas, including (but not limited to) the following: Area II (all Non-Western World classes); Area III (SOC 200, WMS 200, EC 290, and some sections of EC 200); Area IV (all Great Books classes); Area V (some classes); Area VI (all classes). Students completing the 1987 General Education program may count Writing Intensive courses in the 2003 GE program toward fulfilling their writing intensive requirements. * WI sections of the approved General Education substitution courses are available. Students should consult with an academic advisor before registering for a GE substitution course. Transfer and returning students should meet with their academic advisor to determine the number of WI classes (if any) needed to complete the General Education requirement. Writing Across the Curriculum in the MajorWriting Across the Curriculum in the Major requires students to complete at least two WI courses in their major field. Successful completion of ENG 101 and 102 is a prerequisite for all WI courses in the major. All incoming first-year students, transfer students, and returning students who have not been enrolled at Wright State since summer quarter 1995 must complete this portion of WAC for their degree requirements. Second degree students admitted fall 1996 or after must complete at least two WI courses in the new major. Registration for Writing Intensive CoursesIf a course is Writing Intensive it will have a complimentary Writing Intensive Lab corequisite. Students must register for both the Writing Intensive lecture and its corresponding Writing Intensive Lab. Grades for Writing Intensive CoursesIn order to receive WI credit, students must complete the writing component of the course with a grade of C or better. Writing intensive grades are entered separately from course grades on students' transcripts as "P" (pass) or no entry. For students passing the writing component of the course, both the grades for the course and the WI lab will appear on the transcript and permanent record. If a student fails the writing component, a "-" entry will appear on the Transcript and permanent record. Students may pass both components of the WI course, pass the course but fail the writing component, or pass the writing lab component but fail the course itself. A student who passes the lab but fails the course may receive credit for fulfilling the writing requirement but may/will still need to repeat the course to fulfill the major or general education requirement. Students who do not pass the writing component of a WI course must still satisfy the WAC requirements and should consult their academic advisor to discuss their options for doing so. Students who do not successfully complete the WI portion of four GE courses (excluding ENG 101 and ENG 102) may satisfy the GE requirement in other ways. Students should contact an academic advisor for information on these options. To fulfill the WI requirements in the major, students may, under rare circumstances, complete an Independent Writing Project or a designated WI independent reading course to fulfill only one of the two-course requirements in the major. This option is not available to students fulfilling the GE requirement. For more information, visit the Writing Across the Curriculum Web site at www.wright.edu/academics/wac/.
