Wright State 2025 Annual International Education Award
Awarded in the Fall Semester.
Call for Nominations
This award recognizes the successful efforts of members of the Wright State University community in:
- expanding global awareness and international understanding on the campus and in the surrounding communities;
- developing innovative, internationally-focused curriculum;
- operating education abroad activities; and
- providing services to international students and scholars.
The award is presented annually in conjunction with International Education Week observances at Wright State University. This year, International Education Week will be November 3-7, 2025.
Nominations
- Any faculty, staff, student member(s), or group of the Wright State community can be nominated for this award.
- Nominations should include a cover letter summarizing the accomplishments of the candidate(s), a curriculum vitae or resume, and appropriate supporting evidence concerning the nominee(s)' contributions to international education at Wright State University.
- Nominations should be submitted to Michelle Streeter-Ferrari, Director, University Center for International Education, 244 Student Union by October 17, 2025.
- These materials will be forwarded to the International Education Award selection committee.
Global Citizen & International Advocate Awards
Awarded in the Fall Semester.
The Wright State University Center for International Education (UCIE) is currently accepting nominations for two awards: the Global Citizen Award and the International Student/Scholar Advocate Award. Learn more about these awards below. Individuals who are nominated and selected will be recognized at the 2024 Wright State International Education Reception. Nomination forms and documentation must be submitted to UCIE no later than Friday, October 17, 2025, to be considered.

International Student/Scholar Advocate Award
The individual nominated for the International (Student/Scholar) Advocate Award should be a Wright State faculty or staff member or a Dayton area community or group member, who has been instrumental in improving the experience of Wright State international students and scholars during their studies at Wright State University. This award will be presented at the 2024 Wright State International Education Reception.
Deadline: Nomination forms and letters are due by 5:00 p.m., October 17, 2025.
Global Citizen Award
The individual nominated for the Global Citizen Award should be an outstanding international student, Wright State Exchange Visitor Program scholar (researcher/professor) or a US domestic student, who through service and leadership at Wright State, in the Dayton community, or abroad, has been instrumental in improving the experience of other Wright State students here on campus, in the Dayton community, or on one of Wright State's exchange or study abroad programs. This award will be presented at the 2024 Wright State International Education Reception.
Deadline: Nomination forms and letters are due by 5:00 p.m., October 17, 2025.

Jennifer Subban, associate professor of urban affairs at Wright State University, received the 2017 International Education Award for her work with the university’s Leadership Education to Advance Development (LEAD) Program.
Subban, a native of South Africa, was honored on Nov. 16 during Wright State’s International Education Week celebration.
2016
Pascale Abadie, an assistant professor of French who is a driving force of Wright State's France Ambassador Program, was honored with the university's 2016 International Education Award.
2015
Cristina Redko, director of the global health concentration in the Master of Public Health Program at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, has won the university’s 2015 International Education Award.
Redko, who is associate professor of community health at the Boonshoft School of Medicine, was honored for her innovative and sustained contributions to global health education.
2014
Associate French professor Kirsten Halling, who has helped spur the dramatic growth of Wright State’s French program, led the wildly popular French Immersion Days and nurtured an appreciation of France in the community, was named recipient of the university’s 2014 International Education Award.
“Kirsten’s advocacy for expanding global awareness and international understanding has opened and deepened the lives of those she touches,” said Marie Hertzler, chair of the Department of Modern Languages.
2013
December Green, director of international studies at Wright State and known for her deep commitment to educating students on issues and cultures of foreign countries, was named recipient of the university’s 2013 International Education Award.
2012
For his tireless efforts to expose the Wright State community to global cultures and research, George Huang, Ph.D., is this year's recipient of the university's International Education Award.

During International Education Week, November 1-5, 2010, Dr. Lang Hong, Ph.D., Associate Dean in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, was awarded the International Education Award for 2010.
2009
During International Education Week, November 2-6, 2009, Dr. Donna Miles Cury, Ph.D., Associate Dean, Graduate Programs and Associate Professor College of Nursing and Health , was awarded the International Education Award for 2009.

During International Education Week, November 17-21, 2008, Dr. Laura M. Luehrmann PHD, Associate Professor of Political Science, Director of the Master of International and Comparative Politics, was awarded the International Education Award for 2008. This award is designed to recognize the successful efforts of members of the Wright State University community to expand global awareness and international understanding on the campus and in the surrounding communities. The award was established to highlight innovations in international curriculum development, the operation of study abroad activities and the provision of services to international students and scholars. Past recipients include Carol Cornett, Andrew Lai, Wayne Carmichael, Fall Ainina, Donna Schlagheck, Marguerite MacDonald, and The Division of Community Programs in the Raj Soin College of Business.
2007
During International Education Week, November 5-11, 2007, Carol Cornett, Director of the LEAP intensive English program was awarded the International Education Award for 2007. This award is designed to recognize the successful efforts of members of the Wright State University community to expand global awareness and international understanding on the campus and in the surrounding communities. The award was established to highlight innovations in international curriculum development, the operation of study abroad activities and the provision of services to international students and scholars. Past recipients include Andrew Lai, Wayne Carmichael, Fall Ainina, Donna Schlagheck, Marguerite MacDonald, and The Division of Community Programs in the Raj Soin College of Business.
2006
2006 International Education Award Recipient was Andrew Lai,Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Interim Chair of the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management, and Coordinator of China EMBA program.
2005
2005 International Education Award Recipient was Professor Wayne Carmichael from The Department of Biological Sciences.
