Adam Johnson, winner of the 2013 Dayton Literary Peace Prize for fiction, will read a short fiction piece and discuss his work Monday, November 10, 12:20 pm in the Student Union Pathfinder Lounge. In addition to the Dayton prize for his novel The Orphan Master’s Son, Johnson is the winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for the same work and the 2014 Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award for his short story “Nirvana.”

Johnson’s writing is marked by a dark, absurdist, but ultimately humane, vision. According to New York Magazine reviewer Daniel Mendelsohn, "Johnson's … visions of a cluttered, anaerobic American culture illustrate something very real, very current: the way we must embrace the unknown, take risks, in order to give flavor and meaning to life." He is associate professor in creative writing and founder of the Stanford Graphic Novel Project at Stanford University.

Johnson’s reading is sponsored by the Department of English Language and Literatures as part of its support of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize.
