Join us at the Culture and Identity Centers for a for a unique opportunity to hear from Dr. Karen Korematsu, as she shares insights into the life of her father Fred Korematsu, including one of the most infamous civil rights cases in U.S. history and his path to being awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

We will begin with a screening of the documentary Korematsu (24 minutes) –– Discover the story of a 23-year-old American citizen who stood up for his Constitutional rights during one of the most challenging times in U.S. history. Against the will of his family and community, Mr. Korematsu defied the military's wartime orders for Japanese Americans to leave their homes and he fought for justice all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Following the screening, Dr. Korematsu will off brief remarks and respond to questions and discuss with the audience.

For the first 20 WSU students/employees, lunch will be provided by vouchers which can be used upstairs at the Union Market, Sushi Boss, Rowdy Subs, or Pour. Please arrive between 11:45-12n to ensure you are able to get your food in a timely manner. We'll begin the film around 12:15pm.

Dr. Korematsu is visiting Dayton for a Keynote talk at the International Peace Museum on Saturday, April 26 at 11am as part of the traveling exhibit "AM I AN AMERICAN OR AM I NOT?" where visitors can learn more about the WWII Incarceration of Japanese Americans and related stories from our country's past and present in the new traveling exhibition, on display now through June 1.
