My Adventures in Thailand
Presented by Dr. Timothy S. Wood, emeritus professor of biological sciences
WSU retiree Tim Wood will share stories about his adventures in Thailand. It all began in 2002 when Dr. Wood spent a three-month sabbatical in Thailand to study bryozoans (living fossils). His brief visit marked the beginning of an extraordinary partnership with faculty, staff and students at Kasetsart University in Bangkok. Their 17-year collaboration led to significant scientific discoveries resulting in a small academic department being catapulted to international prominence.
Dr. Wood’s presentation will consist of a series of stories on his adventures in Thailand, including:
- An encounter with royalty
- The shadow of the 2004 tsunami
- Stumbling through the Thai language
- A forbidden rendezvous
- Lessons in face saving
- An introduction to the spirit world
- Friendships and transformations
This event will take place in the Board Room on the first floor of the WSU Foundation Building (located behind Wendy’s Restaurant across Colonel Glenn Highway from the main entrance to campus). The talk is free and open to the public, but advance registration is requested. To register, RSVP by Friday, Sept. 13, by sending email to mary.gromosiak@wright.edu or calling 937.974.4010. This event is sponsored by the Wright State University Retirees Association (WSURA).
