Dear Campus Community,
I want to give you an update on our Fall 2020 semester Class Schedule and how courses will be delivered. But first, I want to emphasize again that the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our primary concern as we respond to the many uncertainties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. We are planning for a fall semester that includes a combination of remote, flexible delivery, and safe, socially distant, in-person classes.
We expect to have the attributes for the mode of course delivery applied to almost all courses in WINGS Express by July 31. All classrooms for general university courses have been reconfigured with lower capacity to accommodate physical distancing. Classrooms should be assigned in the next two weeks based on class size and technology needs.
Faculty have had a choice in how they wish to teach their courses, and we are prioritizing the following broad categories of courses to be held face-to-face or on campus: practica; clinicals; lab sections and lab-based courses; studio courses in the arts; active learning courses; and discussion-based courses. Other courses may be delivered in a flexible format that involves a combination of delivery methods. Nevertheless, whether students attend classes face-to-face or via remote learning, our goals at Wright State remain the same across all delivery methods: provide all of our students with an engaging, high-quality education. Our faculty have spent the spring and summer engaging in training opportunities related to the flexible delivery of instruction. I appreciate their adaptability and enthusiasm as they plan to provide the best experience for our students, taking into account space, scheduling, pedagogical, and health concerns for all students and employees. This has been part of critical, on-going efforts university-wide, including upgrading classroom technologies that are essential for delivering a positive and productive learning experience for all Wright State students, whether they are physically in the classroom or participating via remote instruction.
Students with questions or concerns can contact their academic advisors, the Academic Success Centers, technology services, career services, RaiderConnect, Student Health, or the Counseling and Wellness center, depending on the nature of your need.
I sincerely thank you all for your patience and flexibility as we make decisions that will help keep our campus community safe and support our students as they progress toward degree completion. We continue to monitor the pandemic in partnership with local and state health departments and will adapt our plans as necessary.
