Dear Campus Community,
Thank you for all of your hard work and care for others in and out of the classroom this term — a semester unlike any other at Wright State University.
Wright State’s faculty and administration recognize the extraordinary difficulty many students have faced in the 2020 Fall and Summer Semesters. Those challenges impacted some students' ability to perform at their best and increased the likelihood of failing performances.
Because of these unusual circumstances, the university will provide an automatic conversion of failing grades for undergraduate students for both the 2020 Fall and Summer Semesters. We hope this action will minimize long-term damage to students’ grade point averages (GPAs) as a result of a trying semester(s).
Last week, in conjunction with the Faculty Senate, the university confirmed a process by which all submitted grades of F or X, which affect students’ GPAs, will automatically convert to U or XU, which are not calculated in the GPA. All faculty will submit their course grades as usual for Fall semester (A, B, C, D, F, X, or NR) no later than noon on December 16. The grade conversions will automatically occur by 5 p.m. December 16.
Similar to the impact of an F or X grade, the grade of U or XU will not confer credit. Hours are still counted as attempted, but not earned, and have the same impact on completion and maximum timeframe for financial aid satisfactory academic progress.

Please keep yourself and others safe as you take a break from the classroom this holiday season. I look forward to your healthy and rejuvenated return for the Spring Semester.
Take care,
