Research and Sponsored Programs

Wright State University’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) is a comprehensive network of supportive services dedicated to working with faculty and staff to increase externally funded research, scholarly activities, and other sponsored programs. Knowledgeable, experienced RSP staff provides pre-award and post-award support, compliance coordination, and technology transfer expertise, oversees internal seed funding support, and is the designated clearinghouse regarding all government security clearance matters for WSU employees.

RSP Pre Award and support staff identify and disseminate internal and external funding opportunity information; serve as liaisons on pre-submission/pre-award matters between the funding sponsor and the applicant individual; provide assistance with proposal and budget development and preparation (such as workshops, proposal consultation, guidelines interpretation, proposal and forms review, and development/review of project budgets); oversee the process for obtaining institutional approval for external support requests and transmitting proposals to funding sponsors; and negotiate the terms of awards with potential sponsors.

RSP Post Award and support staff establish a WSU Financial Accounting System account for all awarded projects; assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with orderly administration of a project; provide notification for all required project reports; serve as liaisons on post-award modifications between the funding sponsor and PI; and prepare/submit all project-related fiscal reports.

University policy requires the review and approval of all research projects involving activities subject to federal and local regulations. RSP Compliance staff checks for proper review and approval of all research involving the following: animal use; human subjects, hazardous wastes, radioactive materials, recombinant DNA, and security clearances.
