About Our Office

The Student Advocacy and Wellness Center (SAWC) is a key resource for student case management, offering support to help students overcome academic, personal, and systemic challenges that may affect their studies.

The center provides case management services aimed at addressing these obstacles, while also teaching students self-advocacy skills to help them navigate future challenges independently.

Students rely on the SAWC for accurate, accessible, and relevant information, enabling them to make informed decisions. The center follows a model of self-determination and considers the "person in environment" framework, creating a space where students can empower themselves with knowledge and skills. This approach is applied both in individual interactions and in broader community practices.

Mission

To increase students' ability to thrive by fostering empowerment and holistic wellness necessary to overcome barriers to success.

Services We Provide

The Student Advocacy and Wellness Center (SAWC) is dedicated to supporting Wright State University students by offering comprehensive and inclusive advocacy services, primarily for those at the Dayton Campus. While the SAWC does not have the power to resolve a student's issue on their behalf, it provides valuable support to students, faculty, and staff. This includes offering information, advocacy, guidance, resources, education, and skill development to empower students to use their own strengths in addressing challenges. This includes the following content areas, with different levels of engagement at each level:

  • Responsiveness to the SAWC direct call/text line
  • Direct case management support
  • Power-based violence advocacy
  • University policy and procedural reform advocacy
  • Raider Food Pantry – free food and personal care items
  • Raid Our Closet – free professional attire for job interview and placement
