Dr. Charles J. Hartmann, emeritus professor of law, died in Tampa, Florida, on Feb. 20, 2018.
A native of Missouri, Dr. Hartmann was a graduate of Washington University and the University of Missouri School of Law. He arrived at Wright State as legal advisor to the university and its first president, Dr. Brage Golding, before moving on to the College of Business Administration as professor of law, a position in which he served for his entire Wright State career.
In addition to teaching business law and public policy to generations of Wright State business students, Dr. Hartmann served as an advisor and mentor for many who went on to distinguished careers in the field of law. He also served on the Faculty Senate, and for many years chaired the University’s Athletic Council. He also was Wright State’s faculty representative to various athletic conferences, and to the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In 2004, he became chair of the Department of Management, a position he held until his retirement in 2007.
