Sarah Selkirk Timmons, 88, died May 12, 2023, at Madison Senior Living Community where she had been a resident since 2012. She was born in 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Theodore K. Selkirk and Sarah J. Selkirk. She graduated from Withrow High School in 1952 and Ohio Wesleyan University in 1956.
Sarah met her future husband, Thomas J. Timmons (Ohio Wesleyan class of 1955), while on a Red Cross Student Unit visit. They married in 1956 and she joined him at seminary in Cambridge, Mass.. In 1958 they moved back to Ohio where Tom was first at a parish in Wilmington, and then in Worthington. In 1965, Sarah and Tom moved to London, Ohio. Their life centered around Trinity Episcopal Church and their three sons Stephen, David, and Peter.
In 1974 Sarah completed a Master of Library Science degree at Kent State University, after studying for six years in summer school. She worked as a librarian at Wittenberg University, at Mental Health Services for Clark County, and for 18 years at Wright State University’s Health Sciences Library. After retiring from Wright State in 1999, Sarah worked part time at the London Public Library.
Sarah was a member of the London Business and Professional Women, and volunteered at the Madison County Hospital. She enjoyed reading and walking, and for many years knitted warm clothing for the Seaman’s Church Institute.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Tom in 2011 and her son Peter in 2014. She is survived by her son Stephen of London, son David and wife Robin Bitters of Westminster, Vt., and many other relatives, friends, and caregivers.
A memorial service was held as part of regular Sunday worship on May 21 at Trinity Episcopal Church, London, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to Trinity Church.
