Student body President Daniel Palmer said that the union’s decision would kill student morale and harm the university’s reputation.
WSU says they will be able to replace over 500 faculty members during a strike, should it happen.
The last best offer implemented by the board was not a “negotiating tactic,” spokesman Seth Bauguess said in a prepared statement.
At this point, the decision as to whether or not the union and administration will reconvene negotiations is up to Schrader, said Noeleen McIlvenna.
"Faculty working conditions are student learning conditions, and the value of the degrees that our students earn is defined in no small measure by the professional contributions of our faculty.”
While the notice to strike was previously filed by the union, the authorization was dependent on a vote from the union’s members.
85% of faculty voting authorized a strike; and 95% of eligible voters did vote.
