One good hand deserves another.
A few years ago, Wright State extended a sure hand to her when she was at Pike High School in Indianapolis and Power 5 schools that had shown such interest all of sudden started short-arming her and backing away.
Monday, Angel Baker returned the favor to WSU.
The 5-foot-7 guard reached out and didn’t just lift the Raiders over a more-seasoned, more-hyped Power 5 opponent in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament, she hoisted her team forever into history.
And in the process she and her teammates added some weight to one side of the scales as some folks at the university are debating the viability of sports.
As a national TV audience watched, the WSU women presented the best side of themselves and the program. The Raiders overpowered, then outlasted No. 4 seed Arkansas, 66-62, at the Frank Erwin Center on the University of Texas campus at Austin.
It was the first ever win for WSU women in the NCAA Tournament. And the first time since 2012 a No. 13 seed had knocked off a No. 4 in the tournament.
