Wright State University's executive vice president will officially fill in for outgoing president Cheryl Schrader.
Susan Edwards, provost and executive VP, announced the news on Facebook Thursday evening.
Schrader, who became the school's seventh president in July 2017, announced earlier this month she would exit her post on Dec. 31, 2019. She is only two and a half years into a five-year contract.
Several sources told this newsroom Edwards would assume the interim president role, but the university and its board has remained mum prior to Edwards' Facebook post.
Her post said, in part:
"I am writing to thank many of you for your messages of support as we move through this transition period.
During this transition, and until December 31, 2019, I will, as Executive Vice President, continue my Provost duties; however, in addition, I have assumed all of the President’s operational duties. President Schrader will continue to represent the university at events and in a ceremonial capacity.
My aim during this time is to ensure that the university maintains its current momentum and energy towards moving the institution forward. We currently have a number of initiatives that are gaining traction across the campus, and I am truly thankful for all who are working hard to see them come to fruition.
Our number one priority remains our students. Their recruitment, enrollment, retention, and success will continue to be our key focus moving forward.
We will couple this priority with fostering, and in some cases reinvigorating, our community partnerships with a view to increasing program development specifically to meet the needs of the regions our campuses serve."
