Grant Basile scored a career-high 37 points Friday night, but it wasn’t enough as Wright State dropped a 96-88 decision on the road at Marshall.
Basile finished 12-of-21 from the field, 12-of-14 from the free-throw line and also pulled down five rebounds. He scored 22 of his points in the second half but fouled out with just over three minutes left in the game.
Wright State’s Tanner Holden added 25 points and Tim Finke pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Tied at 43 at halftme, the Raiders (1-1) controlled much of the second half, leading by as many as eight points on several different occasions. Basile’s short jumper in the paint with 11:17 to play gave the Raiders a 69-61 lead.
The Thundering Herd (1-0) then used a quick 11-3 run to knot the game at 72 with 7:46 left. They took the lead for good (78-77) on Taevion Kinsey’s two free throws at the 4:46 mark.
