Wright State University and Loving Spirit, a Colorado nonprofit, are combining their resources to offer a completely free, open to the public, two-day workshop to teach participants how to transform the journey of loss.
The workshop will be held in the Student Union, at 3640 Colonel Glenn Highway, on Saturday and Sunday.
Dayle E. Spencer, president of Loving Spirit, said, “We were contacted by an anonymous donor on August 4th who was dismayed by the tragic shooting incident in the Oregon District.
“The donor, who grew up in Dayton, had previously attended a Loving Spirit workshop and wanted to make it possible for residents of Dayton to have the same opportunity to learn new skillsets, mindsets and tools to help her hometown recover from its losses. The workshop is completely free because this generous donor wanted to pay it forward.”
Loving Spirit was started five years ago following the death of Spencer’s daughter, Allie, at age 28 from the flu. She subsequently published two books on grief and loss, “Loving Allie, Transforming the Journey of Loss,” and “Loving Spirit, Self-help for the Journey of Loss.”
She added, “because of my own loss, I’m well aware how hard the holiday season can be for anyone who is grieving. That, combined with the trauma resulting from the August 4th shooting incident makes this workshop especially important to all of us at Loving Spirit.”
The workshop is limited in size to 30 adults by pre-registration only.
