Wright State was gashed for 51 second-half points in its seasonopener on the way to a blowout loss against Marshall. Having given up more than 50 in a half only twice all of last year, the players knew what to expect in practice the next day.
“We didn’t have a good day when we played Marshall, and we knew we’re a good defensive team,” sophomore guard Tim Finke said. “We wanted to really put an emphasis on that and get stops and build off that going forward, and that’s exactly we did.”
Though it may have taken some verbal lashings from coach Scott Nagy, the Raiders were a different team in a 71-47 win against Miami on Saturday, applying Saran Wrap man-to-man pressure and making the visitors work for everything.

The RedHawks (1-1) made just 18 of 66 shots (27.3%) in falling for the third straight time in the rivalry.
“We have good kids, and it bothers them when they lose,” Nagy said. “I always tell them I don’t handle losing well. I dislike losing much more than I like winning. And I don’t like to be around people who don’t dislike it.
“We watched film of the Marshall game and had a good response after that. Our kids got locked in on Miami.”
