The Milwaukee Brewers picked Wright State Raiders second baseman Tyler Black with the No. 33 pick in the Major League Baseball draft on Sunday night.
The selection came in the Competitive Balance Round A, which falls between rounds one and two.
Black is the 38th player in Wright State history to be drafted, the 11th to be chosen in the first five rounds and the second-highest pick in program history. Only former big-league pitcher Brian Anderson, who was the third overall selection 1993 by the Angels, went higher.
Black, who’s from Toronto, Ont., hit .383 with 14 doubles, one triple, and 13 home runs last season.
ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel ranked Black as the 16th-best prospect in the draft and called him a “late-blooming, mid-major, Canadian second baseman with a spotless track record and power potential.”
