Wright State hasn’t exactly been dominant in crunch time most of the season. When it comes to a finishing kick, coach Scott Nagy’s team is no Sebastian Coe.
But in a game they had to have Saturday night to keep in touch with the Horizon League leaders, the Raiders displayed grit and gumption in putting away one of the conference’s best teams.
In a 75-64 win over Oakland before 3,687 fans, they hounded the Grizzlies into 0-for-11 shooting after falling behind, 57-53, with 9:58 to go and finished the game on a 16-3 run.
“In that four- to six-minute mark when games have been close, it’s been a struggle for us this year. And I was proud of the guys because they stuck with it,” Nagy said.
“Our defense is getting there. It’s getting to where it gives us a chance to be a championship team.”
