Wright State coach Scott Nagy went into the Vegas 4 tournament in Henderson, Nev., with plenty of optimism, even though the Raiders haven’t always fared well in Thanksgiving holiday events.
They went 0-3 in the Naples Invitational last season.
But Nagy said: “Our team has more confidence. ... I think these kids feel like there’s a lot to prove.”
The Raiders certainly are off to the start they hoped to have, going 30 of 50 from the field in blasting Abilene Christian, 77-61, Monday night to improve to 4-1 this season, while the Wildcats fell to 2-2.
UC Riverside (2-2) played Weber State (1-2) in a late game Monday at the inaugural Vegas 4 event.
“Metrics-wise, you look at all the numbers, and this was supposed to be the second-best team we’re going to play all year. We took it to them from the start and really didn’t let up,” Nagy said on his post-game radio show.
