Wright State is a win away from the NCAA Tournament after knocking No. 1 seed Cleveland State out of the Horizon League Tournament.
The fourth-seeded Raiders scored six of the first eight points in the game and never trailed en route to an 82-67 semifinal win Monday night at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Grant Basile led all scorers with 27 points for Wright State (20-13), which also got 17 from Trey Calvin, 12 from Tim Finke and 10 from Keaton Norris.
Tanner Holden scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Raiders. Basile also reached double figures in rebounds with 11.
“I think here lately we’ve gotten down in games and haven’t gotten overly discouraged and so we’ve grown from that,” Wright State coach Scott Nagy said. “Now obviously being up is a different feel, but still when they’re making a run you can get discouraged and you can react negatively and our guys didn’t.”
Wright State advances to the Horizon League Tournament championship game Tuesday night against Northern Kentucky.
The Raiders have won their conference tournament three times, most recently in 2018 when they topped Cleveland State in the championship game to earn their third NCAA Tournament bid in the Division I era.
