Wright State University’s provost will take over some responsibilities of the school’s outgoing president immediately.
Provost and executive vice president Sue Edwards will continue in her role as the university’s chief academic officer but has already assumed some of outgoing president Cheryl Schrader’s responsibilities, according to an email from Edwards sent to campus this week.
“Our number one priority remains our students,” Edwards said in her email. “Their recruitment, enrollment, retention, and success will continue to be our key focus moving forward.”
Before coming to WSU in July 2018, Edwards served as vice provost for faculty affairs at Appalachian State University, according to Wright State. Edwards’ email stopped short of saying she would officially serve as the university’s interim president.
Schrader announced last week that she would step down Dec. 31.
Schrader will continue to serve as president by representing the university at events and in a “ceremonial capacity,” according to the school. Schrader, an engineer, plans to eventually return to a faculty position at WSU.
Schrader’s tenure as Wright State’s president is marked by financial, enrollment and legal issues she inherited upon taking office in July 2017.
