Wright State University has decided to cut its faculty workforce, due to declining enrollment and other financial hardships, including the impacts of COVID-19, according to reporting in the Dayton Daily News.
It is not clear yet how many people will be laid off, said President Sue Edwards.
To initiate the process, a letter from Wright State was sent to the faculty union alerting them that the university anticipates the need for layoffs.
“It’s just basically saying that we believe that we have to go down this pathway,” said Edwards.
University and union representatives who are part of the committee will begin the process and ultimately recommend and determine the number of people to lay off, along with other details between the end of Nov.- Feb., she added.
Those faculty members impacted will receive up to 18 months of notice and workforce displacement support. Over the summer, when 50 positions were cut, and 30 employees also agreed to retire early, the university had provided similar support.
