Wright State is moving forward with a plan to eliminate up to 113 faculty positions.
This morning, the board approved the recommendation of University President Susan Edwards.
While the University says it won’t affect students, one professor says otherwise.
“It’s a national attack on university faculties and on tenure,” Dr. Noeleen McIlvena, WSU Professor of History and President of the WSU Chapter of the American Association of University Professors said. “You see it in iowa. First it started small in random universities and now it’s going towards whole states.”
Wright State says the cuts are due to reduced enrollment for at least four straight semesters and that trend is expected to continue.
Dr. McIlvenna disagrees with the changes.
“You want lower student-to-faculty ratios, you want smaller classes if you can afford them,” Dr. McIlvenna said. “If it’s too expensive you have to have big classes. But we can afford it. We’re making a surplus the last two years.”
