No college student likes having to brave the cold just to get to class.
But these low temperatures make traveling across campus even harder for people with disabilities.
So for nearly 60 years, Wright State University has been offering a safer, more reliable, and more accessible alternative all below ground.
“We actually invested in this as we grew and expanded our campus,” says Tom Webb, Associate Vice President of Accessibility at Wright State University. “As we added more buildings, we included underground tunnels very intentionally so that we could help students safely navigate from building to building.”
Webb says Wright State’s main campus features over 2 miles of interconnected underground tunnels for students and faculty to quickly travel through.
The tunnels connect to every academic building on campus, as well as Wright State's main ADA-accessible dorm, making them very useful for students with disabilities who need to get from Point A to Point B as fast as possible.
