Excerpt from WRGT

Preserving the archives that tell Dayton's story remains a priority for Wright State University.

WSU's plan to renovate and update its Libraries’ Special Collection and Archives has significant support but still needs a boost to see it come to fruition.

The special collection and archives collects, preserves, and provides access to primary sources that document the history of aviation, aviation technology, and the legacy of the Wright brothers, the local and regional history of the Miami Valley, and the history of Wright State University.

It includes the Wright Brothers and Dayton Daily News collections, as well as poetry by Paul Laurence Dunbar.

Currently, all collections are stored in various locations on campus and are not adequately protected from the environment degradation that diminishes the longevity of the historical items.

The project would not only put all the items under one roof but would provide appropriate fire suppression and environmental controls for protection of the collection and availability for future generations. It would also provide opportunities for community engagement.
